My high school counselor tells me that my AP Computer Science class will count toward the recommended four year Math classes that the University of California system requires of applicants. My mom, says that it does not count and that I need to take an actual Math class to meet the requirement. Who is right?

We can’t know for sure, but in this instance, I’d be more inclined to believe your counselor, as he/she probably has more experience with the college application process than does your mom. However, I/ personally think a computer science course wouldn’t count as a math credit. Your best bet is to contact the UC admissions offices and find out.

Problem is my mom use to be a high school counselor, but she hasn’t worked in 20 years. I tell her things have changed and she pulled up the A- G requirements for the UC’s and on paper it looks like she’s right, but I still think my hs college counselor would know better. Thanks, I guess I’ll email a UC admissions officer which is what my mom told me to do in the first place.

Personally, I don’t think it counts… I hope you can work it out though
