Hey guys, I have a question about the UC A-G requirements. Ok so I', calculus bc our senior year by taking geometry in 9th grade and then taking alg2 over the summer to advance to precalc in 10th and calc ab in 11th. Can alg2 or alg 1 be used in the A-G requirements even though I didnt take them directly in my high school so that I can use my higher math courses to use as multiple electives? Any help would be appreciated thanks!

Well, for the UC A-G(H) requirements it says 3 required, 4 recommenced for math, so at least one of the years will count as an elective.

My son was in a similar position. He took Algebra in 7th grade, and Geometry in 8th. We (at the time) were told that if they appeared on his HS transcript, with credit, that they would count. His showed up, with grades, but without credit units assigned. So, I am not sure if they counted them or not. I do know we were told that the adcoms were looking for 20+ classes in the A-G(H) requirements, and these 2 classes, I am pretty sure helped with that. He did apply to several UCs (very competitive ones!) and was accepted to all of them. His stats were good but not spectacular. His did not have a “hook” at these schools (he did at others - and chose to attend one of those instead).

I think that unless you are struggling to get in all of your electives, it will have a positive effect on your application. Perhaps try to see if they appear on your transcrips, as this will be a plus.

Oh I see thank you very much!. Ah yea I heard that 40+semesters of A-G will be really beneficial for the UC’s. I took 5 classes every year (9-12th not counting pe) and without the extra 2 math courses, I would only have 38 semesters (1 elective in 9th grade was not UC Approved). So I was just wondering if the UC’s would list me as 40+ semesters instead of just 38.

-And no, these classes are not reported on my transcript =/
