High School Math Teacher?

What is the average starting salery to your knowledge? after 5 years? after 10 years?

My math teacher makes 2,300 dollars per month and he has a BA with about 5 years of teaching experience. He also get some stipend for coaching baseballl...($3,000 a year)

But we are one of the better paying public school district around.

If I work in a private HS, will I make more? Perhaps 60k+?

Depends on the private high school. You'll make more in some places, less in others compared to public schools.

And starting salaries for teaching will be fairly low (compared to some other careers) no matter where you teach.

This is the AFT (American Federation of Teachers) website. You can click on a state and look at information about their pay.

Pay usually depends on a number of factors such district, education, experience and extra-duty contracts.

I know that Montegomery County in Maryland pays over $60,000, but I've heard that there cost of living is so high, it doesn't matter. From what my teachers have mentioned over the year, teaching is best as a supplement a spouse's income.

Cost of living in MoCo is high as crap. Housing costs have almost doubled in the past six years. Anyways, nobody decides to take up teaching for the money, and I know many teachers who live comfortably at least.

The teachers at my school make about 60,000 - 80,000.
I dont know why some of them complain. Salary all depends on the district and degree.

The problem with some private schools is that, while they pay more, they lack the benefits that public schools provide.
