High School Musical Theatre/Acting summer program

Firstly, I apologize if a thread of this nature has already been posted–I’ve been paging through the MT forum for hours and am starting to get a little dizzy! xD

In case it hasn’t, though, I was wondering if anyone here has attended the High School Musical Theatre/Acting summer program at CCM, and, if so, if I could hear some personal opinions on the program–was it a valuable experience, did you learn a lot, etc. I’m currently a highschool junior and trying to find a worthwhile program to attend this summer, and this is one that has caught my eye, so I’d love to learn more.

Thanks so much for any information or personal opinions that you can share! =D

I know your post was from last year but I am wondering if you found out anything about CCm Prep summer musical theatre program. I am looking at that for my D.

CCM Prep programs use the CCM facilities (which are lovely) but have their own separate faculty. These folks are high-quality teachers who work year-round in Prep, but are not the full-time CCM college faculty. It would be a good chance to see the University and get familiar with the place, but would not be a way to “see and be seen by” the college faculty. Although we have no personal experience with the high school summer program, the Prep faculty do have good reputation and have been at this for several years. Good luck finding the best summer option for your kiddo!

@strlgrnmom – was just looking at the summer flier, and there WILL be some CCM faculty present for the high school mt program, along with Prep faculty. Don’t think I’m allowed to link, but google “CCM Prep” and follow for the links for summer information. Auditions are this weekend for those who could go to campus…will you be there?

No, we are not going to auditions but have mailed in an audition tape. We live in NC. D has been accepted to The Arts Edge summer program which I am also trying to find out more about.

@strlgrnmom My D has been accepted to and plans to attend both CCM prep and Arts Edge. Maybe your D would like to “meet” mine ahead of time online? bsimerka@hotmail.com

I was wondering if you or anyone here could give some detail and comparison to the experience and quality of the summer program at both CCM and Arts Edge…thanks so much!

You can pm me

My D also attended both programs, though in different summers. She had a mixed experience at both. CCM does not use its regular faculty and the master class for voice coaching given by CCM dept chair was reserved for seniors. Even though all of us paid the same fee

At Arts Edge the world class faculty chosen were mostly amazing and my daughter got great monologues, wonderful dance classes, But the majority of kids did not like the songs chosen for them and were forced to audition in front of panel of faculty from major MT schools with songs that did not show their strengths. Examples include a very funny girl who was given serious or angry songs and a soprano who got a mezzo belter song. It is fine for a voice coach to give kids stretch songs to help them grow. But they should not have to audition with a stretch song they have been working on for less than 2 weeks.

Thanks Sondheimmom…sorry I’m just seeing this now! I will pm u for any additional info u might have as soon as I figure out how to do that;) I’m new to the site!!
