High School pettiness in College?

So the thing is, i'm naturally pretty good and science and generally "nerdy" stuff, although i have a rather easy time fitting in to my high school right now...but i'm sick of wearing this "social acceptance" mask and am really really really hoping that in college, people will be more understanding of different tastes and likes.

so whats it like in college? Are there the same old stupid social cliques in which if you dress differently, talk differently, sound "too" intellectual, etc, you are immediately thrown out of the social scene and picked on? or do people generally leave each other alone and have a more libertarian stance on things?

hope that made sense, thanks

They are still cliquey and judgmental in college. However, if you go to a big college you have numbers on your side. More people, more groups for you to choose. Lots of space to avoid the haters.

people will still have the same old stupid social cliques in the office when you're in your 40s, college isn't any different. The reason it's such a social awakening for people is that it's a completely fresh start (unless it's a school where everybody hangs out with their HS friends)
