I loathe high school. Thank goodness I only have less than a month of it left. Please tell me what you experienced in high school and then in college, and which you liked better?

High School was full of cliques, I hang out with people in college that I would have immediately rejected in high school, mainly due to the peer pressure you are faced with in high school. You also had a bunch of pointless busy work assignments in high school. Sporting events aren't even comparable.

College is nice because the classes you take make you realize a lot of this (Psychology, communications, sociology, etc.)

Oh god college is so much better. I honestly hated high school, so I identify with you. I put up with total b!tches for 6 years (including middle school) so by the time I graduated, I was long past ready to get out of there.

I love college. It is hard work, but it's worth it to be out doing your own thing, not having to worry about what stupid skanks think of you. My first semester was sort of rough (roommate was kinda b!tchy, we didn't have ANYTHING in common, etc) but once I met some friends it was so much better. I have met the most awesome people here and I wouldn't trade them for the world. I have 2 people from high school that I still hang out with. I still occasionally facebook a few other people, but really I only talk to my two closest friends regularly. I have alot more friends here than in high school. In college, there are still different groups-- the Greeks, the international students, the SGA kids, the grad students, etc. But if you don't want to mingle in with a group YOU DONT HAVE TO. That's my favorite thing, because all the b!tchy chicks and douchebags in high school are the Greeks in college and they stay in their own little world-- away from everyone else-- most of the time (unless you go to a school completely DOMINATED by Greeks. My school is like 25% greek, 75% not). I'm not saying all Greeks are douchebags and b!tches (there were some incredibly nice people in my dorm last year who were greek), just that all the douchebags and b!tches from high school are usually Greek, and therefore avoidable.

The classes can be really tough (I FAILED chemistry, and I never made lower than a B in high school), you have to work hard, but if you can manage your time (which I am still horrible at, as an upcoming junior) you'll do okay. Don't freak out about GPA too much. As long as you can keep it hovering around a 3.0, it's fine. You don't need a super duper high GPA to get a good job if you have awesome EC's, ie leadership. If you can get a leadership position in something after Freshman year, that's awesome, but anytime in college is good. Don't worry about internships really early (many places don't hire on college students for internships until after jr year anyway). You DONT have to declare a major before you even start college. I did, and I ended up changing it just a few weeks ago before my sophomore year was over. My mistake was trying to stay committed to something I didn't really want to be in.

Bear in mind that the only people on CC are those who love the college experience, so this is a terribly skewed sample to ask. But that said, I can count on one hand the number of people I've ever met who enjoyed HS more than college. And those who loathed HS especially seem to appreciate the joys of the autonomy inherent in college life.

"Bear in mind that the only people on CC are those who love the college experience"

How do you figure?

Alot of people on this forum hated high school.

Yeah, lot ppl here do hate HS..dunno why..:(

Anyways, I just hope college is great as HS or even better. HS was an awesome time for me :p

High school blew. Massively. College is incredible.

God, if only the people in high school would just GROW UP, I wouldn't be clawing my way through it.

You have no idea how BADLY I want to attend college.

lol, Phoenix...

They DID grow up! They're in college now! ...well...SOME of them grew up!
...I can't tell you how many people I've seen act like they were still in high school...or middle school! lol... DRAMA... UGH!

I'm the VIOLATOR here...

I freaking loved high school. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. In fact, when I was searching for colleges, I often asked myself "Why can't I just stay here and convince the teachers to teach us harder stuff?"

The people were great--both students and teachers. While some people did go together, cliques weren't all that segregated. Jocks and nerds got along with no problem. Also they had great courses and activities, plus a lot of school spirit there.

In college, the kids are just, well, not as nice. They're not even funny. The slackers in high school at least were good for a few laughs. These people just are rude. Also some of the profs can get snobby, there's like no clubs comparable to the ones in high school, and the kids seemed to have taken many steps backwards in terms of maturity. Plus it costs more money.

I went from being the popular guy who was "The Mayor" of the school to the guy nobody wants to be around because he doesn't drink or party. That alone should tell you that I preferred high school.

i hate hs because i cant drink or party since i live with my grandma. But college...oh im gonna go crazy

High school was fun, but college is better, though I miss being the smart kid of the group.

yah i hated high school, didn't really fit in, most people who snobs who partied every weekend, community college is worse, can't wait to transfer to a university and experience real college life

See, I think the reason the majority of us hated high school is, since we're on CC in the first place, most of us were probably the nerdy kids in HS and weren't popular. Then we get to college and actually find cool people that we fit in with and we're not the outcasts anymore. The people that liked high school better are the ones who were probably cream of the crop jocks who ruled the high school and then they get to college and they're just like everyone else and can't deal with it.

nah i played football, but i didnt like the immature people

My peers were great even though I didn't like the school itself that much and some of the teachers.

While a lot of students were dumb academically EVERYONE got along socially. Probably because I live in a small town (only two stoplights) where everyone has been going to school together since we were little. There wasn't really a thing such as cliques at my school. So when I watch movies and I see these cliques where no one talks to each other and treat each other like **** Im like WTH, I would never want to go to a school like that.

While everyone did have their own close friends that they hanged out regularly with out of school, we never were above talking to each other or being really good friends with people at school , no matter who you were. Everyone knew each other (my class was small though with about 150, 500+ in school).

The only people that didn't have friends were the few who were generally crazy and had absolutely no social skills, or were rude. No jocks, or nerds, or emo, though you could group people into these stereotypes they would never fit them correctly such as a lot of our jocks did good in school so it never worked.

My school was very diverse too which I loved. This is prolly what it was. 55%white, 25%black, 10%asian, 10%hispanic. There was never conflicts between race though. If there was fights it was never white v.s black. It was people talkin **** v.s other people talkin ****. On each side there would be multiple races. Little to no racial tension, and IR dating was the norm, it was in fact not even noticed. It would be mentioned you know Bob and Jill, they're dating. Not you know that asian guy he is dating that white girl!

I think my school was one of the FEW in the U.S where as a black male my best friend could be a pretty korean girl. And my other friends could be from indonesia, (pure) native american, black, white, and colombian.

I only hope I can have the same experience at college as I did here with my peers. Though with a lot better academic options.

I've enjoyed my time in HS mostly because of the people I've met and hung out with. I'm a miltary child so I live in Germany, but still go to American school. I think my school is one of the few where there really aren't any type of cliques. Sure you have the occasional people who do stupid stuff but for the most part everyone knows everyone in their class and there aren't many confrontations. I just hope when I get to college I can find a group like the people I hang with in HS.

I loved highschool. I went to this awesome, quirky small private school and had great friends and teachers. I can't imagine a better highschool experiance.

That said, college was ten billion times better! This past year (my Freshmen year) was without a doubt the best year of my life.

I hated high school the kids were dumb and the jocks thought they were the stuff. The people in high school were very rude. I love college because I finally have GREAT friends that like me for me, and aren't too quick to judge because I'm "nerdy" "preppy" or whatnot. But the people that graduated from my high school a lot of them commute to college stick to their old high school friends, and come go back all the time! Also a lot of them are pregnant, engaged, or married. Or are pretty much bored loners (hehe the people that rejected me as a friend ) well loners. College is truly the best time of my life! I like the independence and not feeling like a kid!
