High school physics ?

Because of a weird scheduling conflict, I can't take my H.S.'s physics class, so I've decided on taking an online course in AP Physics. I can either take Physics B or C, and I know that Physics C covers material more in-depth and is calculus based. I've already taken BC Calc, but I haven't had a prior physics course. Should I be OK taking Physics C, or should I take Physics B, since I haven't had a physics course before?

Go ahead and jump into Physics C. Physics C assumes no prior knowledge of physics.

Bump...any more opinions, people? Perhaps from someone who's taken Physics C?

I was told I had to take AP Physics B because C was for those who had taken physics before...

but I think they just made that up themselves... evil glare

If you've had calc, you'll be fine in physics C.

as a former AP physics B student, i highly suggest you go into B first...the program is really tough in my HS and there are only a select few in the C program, and those are the kids who scored 5 on their AP physics B test the year before and who just picked up a knack for physics...as an intro, id really suggest you take B before C

Well, it seems to me that you seem to have the single variable calculus background. So, it is better to take Physics C than B because you do not want to spoil your excellent Mathematical skill by taking Physics B. Physics B is mostly focused on trivial trig function and stuff, but non-calculus-based.

ya but it seemed to me it was also a base for physics C stuff, but do what you wish

Thanks for all the responses, everybody! I just signed up for EPGY's Physics C course, so I don't need any more opinions. The CC community definitely helped me decide. I picked Physics C because I would like to be able to apply my strong math background, and I don't believe the Physics C material would be "over my head."

kk good luck with it man, im sure you wont need it

HELLO! (please help me :))

I want to do pre-med but I really don't want to take Physics next year.. Not because I despise the subject, just because we don't have a good Physics faculty and the classes are usually composed of rowdy guys who are looking into engineering and architecture.

We don't have the AP curriculum here, but the senior level of Physics is quite comparable to AP physics. Do colleges request Physics at senior level in highschool?

And if I don't take Physics, will I have a hard time catching up in Physics classes in the Pre-med course?

These are my science subjects thing in highschool (British system :grades 9-13)

9th grade - Combined Scinece
10th grade - Combined Science
11th grade - Combined Science
12th grade - Physics, Bio, Chem

13th grade - Bio, Chem, (**physics??)

Most colleges request 3 years of Sciences.. So is it ok if I don't take Physics next year?????
If I don't have to take it, I will be taking Art Design or Stats..

By the way, I'm applying from new Zealand so I will end up sending in my senior transcript.

Thanks!! (please reply back :))

I'd take it to better prepare yourself for college, where you can't skip a class if you want to.

thanks michelec!

So when students do not take AP physics, and enter a competitive pre-med programme, would they have a hard time catching up with others who took AP physics?

Thanks
