i’d like 8 periods and a wider course selection (more APs)

What’s a nine period schedule like? How long is your school day?

My school day is 8:10-3:00 and it’s on a traditional schedule of seven periods.

But good for you for standing up for what you want in an education.

9 periods? I have 7…

Is there an option at your school where you can skip lunch to take another class? We have 8 periods (one is usually lunch), but if students wish to take another class they can either request a no lunch schedule of come in early for a “period zero.” I don’t know exactly the full details of your school district, but if they are going to take away one period anyway maybe there can be some alternative available if there aren’t already.

Skipping lunch is absurd and shouldn’t be an option. School districts around me allow their students to do that. In my school, the lunch period is 80 min, with a twenty minute lunch inside of that, could be at beginning, middle, or end of period. So no separate period for lunch

My school has 4 100-minute blocks a day, which change each semester. 3rd block has lunch, in a similar manner to what CPU said; it’s longer, but you’re in class for the same amount of time, since you either have lunch at the beginning or end (or now middle, as a new option) of the block.

But next year (after I’m gone), they’re switching to a shorter day with some weird block-period hybrid.

I did it last year and it really wasn’t so bad. It seems bad on paper I think, and some people thought it was weird that I chose that instead of having an early period (but I didn’t want to wake up early, and transportation was an issue), but I just had a good breakfast and snacked during the day.

Our periods are 40 minutes each, with 5 minute breaks in between each period so that we can get to our next class (my school is massive). You have lunch either 4th,5th,6th,7th, or 8th period, but you can skip lunch if you want. If you’re not a senior, you can have a max of 2 free periods, not including lunch.

Our classes last the whole year, except for some half-year electives. And since it’s in NY, we have an art requirement, so we kind of have to have enough spots for an elective.

Only 6 periods!? My school has 10 periods. On an all-block day, normally Mondays, we have classes 1,2,5,6,7,8,9,10. Each class, except 8, is 45 minutes long with 5 minutes between each class. 8th block is 85 minutes because it is the lunch period. Tuesday and Thursday we have 1,3,5,7,9. Wednesday and Friday are 2,4,6,8,10. Classes on those days are 85 minutes. 3 and 4 is seminar (homeroom). Everyday school is 8:00-3:00.

Normally, we have 4 core classes and 4 to 8 electives a year, depending on if the class is a semester or year-long. Core classes are always a year.

It might sound like a lot, but I cannot imagine having even 1 less class! I’ve taken classes that introduced to me to potential careers or hobbies that I never knew I’d enjoy (like graphic design!). I support you guys 100%!

My school has 6 periods only but they are all 55 min. instead of 45 min. But we have 0 period for those that want to and 7th period which are school outside of normal school hours; these start on the time the teacher wants. For example my 7th period starts a 5pm to 9pm on Mondays and 6 pm and ends at 9 on Thursday.

It’s weird how schedules differ at schools so much.

My school has seven 45 minute periods, a twenty minute long assembly period, and a 55 minute lunch period, with five minutes changing time between classes.

I think that I read that in South Carolina there are only three or four schools that aren’t on the block schedule.

We took eight classes in eighth grade and it was a little too much for me… Even seven is hard. I’m jealous of the four period kids.

seven classes since 7th grade. 43 minutes each (they keep adding 15 minutes to the school day every year, so now it’s 45 i think.) four minutes break in between. 5th period is 80 minutes (a 20 min lunch block is in there.)

6 classes in total, 3 classes a day because of block scheduling.

I personally do agree with you; my school is cutting so many classes and migrating a lot of them to FLVS that it’s absurd.

Yeah seven periods here. In the ninth and tenth grades most kids really only got one elective, as you had your 4 core classes, gym, and a foreign language. But gym is only mandatory for 2 years in my school, with half of 10th grade gym being drivers ed anyway.

I think what upsets me most about my particular school is its complete lack of options. We only offer 3 AP classes. And its complete lack of caring for education. I swear on anything that our school’s number one priority is discipline and its number two priority is getting children to pass the state required standardized tests.

gym is mandatory for three years -________-

nattilee- that’s what i HATE about my school. we offer 9/10 APs though, but not a good enough selection to accomodate different student interests.

Wow…so glad I have the schedule I do!
Block scheduling 4 classes each semester each for 85 minutes, you can arrange your schedule any way you want basically. Last semester i took apush and had heard it was the hardest class in mmy school so I arranged my schedule around it…ap cal not bad, latin(a joke) and a peer tutor(sit around and pretend to do something)…i’m paying for it this semester though!
My school went through the same thing last year-they wanted to get rid of the block, but we saved it ( :
Good Luck-you can do it!!!

Wow it’s so different everywhere! At my school we get 8 classes, we go to 4 on one day and 4 on the next day. It’s just every other day. Each class is 75 minutes long and we get 45 mins for lunch in-between second and third (6&7). I’m glad my schedule isn’t so crazy!

Our schedule has seven 47 minute periods (sometimes there’s a zero hour too, but very rarely). During fourth period, you either have A, B, or C lunch.

You can also have pairs of blocked classes in which you only go to one of the two each day (except Monday where you go to both), but that period lasts twice as long as a normal period. Some classes are only offered blocked, others are only offered standard, and even more are offered both ways.

Our schedule is very complicated.

BillyMc’s school sounds like my school.

my schedule has eight classes that are 45 minutes each. One studyhall and reg. students get electives IB students do net. So seven classes year round and 1 break.

I hate it. I wish my schedule was more like a college one.
