Does it look bad not to participate in sports in high school?

If you’re not recruitable/varsity level, there’s no reason to be on a sports team. It’s filler, and as good as any other EC. Id say that a competitive EC (Debate/Quizbowl) is better than a sport (unless you’re actually good at it). But that’s just how I would do things if I was an Admissions Officer.

Surprisingly no.
The amount of time put into sports is not valued as much in college, who discount that as much less time. Doing another club just as seriously, a.k.a 40+ hours a week, would look better, especially if you are a leader in the club.

However, this does not apply if you are good at the sport.

ATLANTIC!!!

UGH!!

I thought I was going to get first response. Like I missed by less than a minute…

However, I concur

Thanks for the great advice! I’m not really a sports person

That’s okay, many of those who post in the Stats threads have no sports!

Just do what you love well!

You don’t have to do sports to get into good colleges. Just do what you do best, whatever that may be. Colleges would much rather see you doing stuff you like that doing something that isn’t your forte.

Apollo–been awhile since you’ve been on here, eh? All I see on every thread under last poster is “Apollo11” all the way down the page. :D

^Lol, I usually post in large sporadic bursts.

Like most of you don’t know me because I go weeks on end till I post and then I go on an all-out rampage.

Anyway, CE is very helpful. I didn’t do sports, but I did things that I love and that kept me sane, which I value just above getting into college. But I guess they are the same thing to the people on this forum

Any advantage of doing a sport in school rather than a group/club?

^Yes, if you are city-champ and captain and stuff, its way better than being a non-contributing member in a frivolous club, like the Asian Culture Club and you’re just a member.

Also, sports keeps you in shape and develops morals and work ethic, important when maturing into a young adult.

This is not to say it is impossible to do this without sports, just that sports encourages this.
