High-school student, 18, wins $1,000 a month for LIFE in New York lottery

"One 18-year-old has won $1,000 – or, to be accurate, $1,000 every month for the rest of his life.

Robert Salo, who is graduating from high school this month, is the youngest person ever to scoop the ‘Win $1,000 a Week for Life’ scratch card game.

The Brooklyn-based student, who came forward to claim his prize on Tuesday, will rake in more than $3 million, if he lives to be 80-years-old." ...

How sweet it is!

He’ll never starve! Do you know how much food you could buy with a $1000?? …I’m such a fatty :)

I think it’s more like $12,000 a year?

That’s still not enough to pay for any elite university!

But you wouldn’t have to worry about food…

I think the link had it wrong. All other sources Daily News et al are reporting it as $1000 per week ( not month) which works out to $3 million if he lives until age 80 ( 60 years at 52K per annum)

PER WEEK??? faints

everyone should get $1000 a week for life :). then all our problems would be solved.

Oh my gosh, I wish I could get $1000 per week. By the way, according to the Huffington Post, it was $1000 per week. I don’t know why the link said per month. It also said $1000 per week on ABC news.

Very lucky for the 18-yr old. He’ll still have to borrow (or get from his parents) to pay for an expensive college (if he’s interested)- especially after he pays the taxes.

yeah, if he is interested in things that will require he receive more than 52k a year he will have to get the money somehow (either through loans or doin’ something…).

most people don’t require more than 52k a year though.

For some reason this sounds a lot better than receiving a lump sum $10mill payment. Funny how things like that work out.

Anyway, 50 years from now this stream of income will be worth considerably less (though it will still be nice). I wonder what kind of guarantees there are that the lottery will continue to pay out.
