What's a good yearly salary?

Just curious what you guys think.

It depends on where you live and family size.

If you are single, $100,000+ is very good.

If you have six kids, $100,000 might not be very generous.

Personally, I am shooting for ~ $150,000+ when I get my MBA. But then again, I want I-banking.

That's interesting because I recently read a statistic that only 5% of people/households (I forget which) make 100k or more.

I honestly never realized that 100k means you're pretty wealthy. Especially since that once tax takes a clip out of that income, it doesn't seem like that much considering bills/mortgages/loans/carpayments/etc.

Single: 65K+ (for 80% of the country)

I don't consider $100,000 pretty wealthy and would be disappointed in myself if I didn't make at least $100,000 in my field once I've established myself.

$60,000 a year. I believe that puts you above a certain federal tax bracket as well.

edit: inafterpeoplewhothink100kisntalot

Wow, $100,000 is a LOT of money.

I'd agree with about 50,000-60,000 a year.

inb4"not really"

200-450k. atleast thats what im going to get.

100,000 is upper middle class, with a comfortable lifestyle in the suburbs i would say. I would be happy with that

You guys should realise a lot of this is dependent on cost of living.

If you were a foreign teacher living in Somalia, the $25,000 the government might pay you could be pretty comfortable, since cost of living is way cheaper, for example. Of course, the money you sent back home would be worthless.

If you earned $200,000 / year in Somalia you could probably hire a small private army.

Are you actually close to getting that? Or is that a wild and fairly large ranged estimate of when you graduate HS, then college, then etc. Cause if you were close, I'd definitely have to say congratulations.

Is this starting salary right after school? If it is, I'd be happy with $75,000. If not, I'd want $110,000+

The teachers in my school district with 20+ years of experience all get above $100,000. Of course, if they coach one of the teams, they get paid a lot more.

I'm no expert, but 100K/year seems like a lot to me. If I could make that, I'd be happy!

depends on the situation

for me, a good salary would be over 1.2 million, (not starting but eventual..7 or 8 years after)
but looking at it from someone elses perspective, it would probably be very different.

Usually its a bit higher than what your parents make..if your dad is donald trump or something then 1.2 mill will seem like nothing but if your family is struggling then 60k could seem like a lot.

Pay close attention to this good point. Met already went into 'family size' so I'll just elaborate on the 'where you live.'

Housing costs vary tremendously around the U.S. A salary of $l00K with 2 or 3 kids lets you live in a 4-bedroom, 2,500 square foot house in a beautiful, upscale suburb of a Rust Belt city (depressed economy) like around Cleveland, Buffalo or Detroit.

OTOH, if your heart is set on living and working in the Silicon Valley of California, or NYC or a Long Island or Connecticut suburb, you'd need a much larger salary to afford the same house.

Housing is usually the biggest hit on a paycheck. It's not like cars, which cost the same everywhere in the nation, or federal income tax which Just. Doesn't Care. where you live.

So always ask yourself, "how far would that salary go in the region I hope to reside, to raise the family I imagine?" That's a meaningful question.

I would imagine 50,000-70,000 after about 5 years of working, but starting out most likely around the 30,000-40,000.

I consider 100,000 to be upper middle class

You think 30,000 - 40,000 is a good starting salary? That's what people make without a degree.

where I live it is. people without HS degrees usually start in the 20,000 range
