How do I know how competitive my high school is?

If it were competitive, you'd probably know by now. If you haven't heard anything, it's probably not competitive.

How many people do they send to "top" schools? That is generally a good indication of how strong your school is as viewed by competitive colleges.

Well, I don't pay much attention to my school. lol Anyways, I do know that last year we had the best AP program among 13 states. Also, by searching online I found that from the class of 06 2 students are attending Cornell, 2 Northwestern, 12 Purdue, 60+ University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 2
University of Chicago, many more are attending great colleges, but these are the ones that stood out to me. I don't know how many were accepted to the top universities. It's a public high school with about 2600 students.

Hey, don't ya know, we all go to the hardest highest school and take the hardest course load ever. I know I have seen it said many many times on this board.

For a high school with 2600 students (which, I assume, would mean 600+ students in the senior class if your high school is 9-12?), getting a smattering into the most selective schools and a fair number into your state school isn't all that impressive. It's not unimpressive, it's just not eyebrow raising.

If you're from one of the suburban Chicago schools, there's a pretty good chance that it's a competitive institution. As I recall, the Trib publishes test score comparisons of Chicagoland schools every year. The Northshore schools usually do very well, as do the NW and W suburbs.

Tarhunt, I was thinking the same thing, it seems that many of the students from my high school go to schools in state. And yes, my hs is in the nw suburbs of Chicago.

There are some very good schools in the NW suburbs. Maine South comes to mind, but there are others, as well.
