Highest score increase you have heard of

Of the 45 students I have tutored, the most any student has improved is 500 points (1650 to 2150). She was a hard worker and put lots of time in on her own as well.

Well yeah sdkdol, but when schools see you’ve done the SAT 3+ times it kind of makes you look bad. I could do the SAT 5 times and end up with a 2300, but why? Why not get a 1960~2000 and put the energy spent on 5 SAT’s into senior year and college essays?

both were /2400. Even I was shocked, more at the first 1560 than the 2360.

I swear this is totally true, but my brilliant Korean friend had 800 in Math section and 730 Reading Section

May: 1640 (V600/M470/W570)
October: 1960 (V700/M570/W690)
December: Hopefully 2100+

The math scores are really embarrassing, and my main obstacle to a decent score. Ah well, I’m studying for it now.

I managed +490 from May –> Oct. Should have been more, but made stupid mistakes on math.

Python, one of the things I want to kill the most is stupid mistakes in math. ARG. I hate them with a passion more demon than human!

Yea, taking the SAT 3+ times is definitely something that looks bad. But since these girls tried multiple times until they reached 2300s, I’m guessing that the schools they’re looking at require 2300+, and if that’s the case, someone with a 2000 will have very, very little chance of getting in unless they have fantastic ECs to balance it (like multiple state, national awards and recognition). To me, that is much harder than studying for the SATs, and may not even be possible for some people. And while the 3 retakes look bad for the person who got 2300, they will still have a much better chance of getting in.

I was 1800 range beginning of July. By September, I was 2250. Yeah I raised 450 points over summer. :D

I also know of one case, on the old two-section SAT, of a score increase of 180 points from one test date to the next, because the test-taker was sick the first time.

What is the evidence that most colleges even care?

My daughter’s designer SAT prep course gave her a list of actual real live people at her school who went up 180-500 points after last year’s course. There were ten of them. But they counted PSAT to SAT improvement as well.

I improved 310 points from seventh grade to eighth grade! And NO, before you ask, it was for a summer program. That I ended up not going to, anyway >.< I didn’t really study, it’s just that when you’re younger your brain grows a lot! Even if you really don’t notice. 1910 –> 2220.
Grr, I read that over, and now it feels like I’m bragging. Even tho that’s not how I felt when I typed it at all; but whatever, this is kind of a brag thread anyway.
I don’t think being sick hurts! I was happy and healthy the first time, and super sick the second time. I think being sick helps you focus, because you just want to get it over with.
The most annoying thing is when the girl across from you starts CRYING. You feel bad for her, but you also just want to SHUT HER UP.

1440 (PSAT) to a 2120.

my friend went from a 1900 to a 2300, no studying whatsoever. totally inexplicable.

My friend went from a 24 on the ACT to a 32. I don’t know of any major SAT score increases.

My friend got a 1500 on his December SAT and then a 1950 on his January one O.O

I went from a 1520 to a 1940 on the SATs…

still very unhappy with the score, trying to get it to 2100-2200 which is def possible as my only weak subject now is CR

196 PSAT to 2250. I’m still disappointed that I didn’t break 2300, which I would easily have if I had written a better essay :/

1800s to 2300s, it got investigated lol.

calgar, how did they do that? do you know what prep they used?
