Son was recently (Feb) asked by athletic coach at Pton through a prominent Pton alumni to send an application in.

With some hesitancy (feeling it's way out of our league) and encouragement, my son got his package together and the application was sent.

With in a week, he was notified for an interview. Apparently the interview went well.

Being an anxious parent, last week I decided to check out the his status on the web-site. It states he is missing SAT subject tests. What a blow. It never occurred to any one that he had never taken these tests. The colleges he was applying to never required them.

I realize it was a total long shot that he'd even have a chance. My son did not feel comfortable even applying to Pton. But with our encouragement, we told him he had nothing to lose. He applied, interviewed well. I felt this was a great opportunity regardless of the outcome. How many kids get a chance to do just that? Even the interviewing process was a great learning experience, if anything.

My problem is, I feel that we've wasted everyones time. What are the possibilities of him getting in without the subject tests? Is there any chance or is he (we) just being too hopeful?

Did he take the ACT ? Did he submit those scores? It may not be too late to have them sent, but I wouldn’t count on it. It is the responsibility of applicant to submit all required materials. If he had no standardized tests to submit, then there is no chance, sorry…

Call the coach and explain what happened. In the case of an athletic recruit, there may be some wiggle room, depending on how badly they want to recruit him. Don’t be afraid to ask.

No offense but if your son ends up at that school it will relieve me greatly that I chose to apply to schools where athletic recruitment isn’t given a ridiculous advantage over intellectual curiosity

Get on the telephone. A late invitation to apply (Dec 31 is the normal cut off) means Pton is interested. If he’s still under consideration, you’ll get info. Even if he’s not, you’ll at least know. Good luck.

Thanks to all for your input. I did check with the coach. The college won’t except without the subject tests. Let this be a lesson learned. I have 2 younger children who WILL be taking the SAT subject tests when it’s their time, regardless of where they are applying!
