I’m a Californian HS student. I have a cummulatice GPA of 3.78 my freshmen year and I’d like to raise it to a 4.0 by the end of my sophomore year. Im taking an AP class this year so is it possible to raise my GPA to a 4.0 by the end of the year? And do colleges a mostly look at Weighed or unweighted?
One AP class will not raise your cumulative GPA to a 4.0 weighted, however, if you continue to take AP classes through Senior year then it is very possible to have a 4.0+ weighted GPA. Each school has their own way of weighting courses and GPA. In California, the UC’s and CSU’s will give you 8 semesters of honors points toward your GPA calculation for UC approved Honors, AP/IB or DE courses taken 10-11th grade. Other schools may only look at your UW GPA but will take into account your HS course rigor, so it really depends upon which schools you end up applying. Just continue to take challenging courses and do well in them.

I think that you need to take this one week and one semester at a time, and just do the best that you can. If you keep ahead in classes, always show up to class and always pay attention, do your homework early, and do your reading early, then over time you will do fine.
