I will let you know next week how they worked. He is on his trip now!

Crawford Notch is where they were! I haven’t got a report on how the shoes worked yet, but it must’ve been fine because his report is “it was meh on the way up, but really great on the way down.”
Today is the next-to-last day of a week long camp, and the day of the hike. Every evening I have gotten a short, but glowing, text about how awesome everything is. Then last night I got a text saying he’d gotten a cold and he felt really sad. 
My diagnosis is that he was exhausted from having way more fun than he’s used to. He took some ibuprofen and went to bed, and of course I didn’t hear from him this morning and worried about him all day. But I just got a text (yes, in response to the 3 texts I had sent throughout the day asking him to let me know if he was feeling better today) saying that he is fine and he enjoyed the hike.

I got a report on the shoes. 
They worked really well actually, even stepping in some puddles and whatnot didn’t get my socks wet
and my ankles don’t hurt (yet)

Glad to hear everything worked out for him! From Crawford Notch the hike was probably either up Mt. Willard or up to Mt. Pierce (a bit longer). Everything out there is “wet” right now but if he escaped the day with dry socks that’s a positive. Everyone is different but IME hiking with people not used to it the first thing that tends to bother them is their hips. I’m usually hiking with old folks though.

Yes, Mt Willard. And I know there was a gift shop where he bought a rubber snake to scare a girl 
so it sounds like it was very manageable.

Yes—I was guessing Willard. (One of my kids hiked there from camp several years ago. He remembered when he was at the summit with us in 2021.
