<p>But hm. I wouldn't have thought MIT would take the parody of their letter as seriously as it seems they did, judging from the message that b@r!um posted. Seems like if they have enough of a sense of humor to send out a goofy letter, they should have enough of a sense of humor to withstand such a reaction. I mean, really. John Mongan parried beautifully, I think--his version of the letter is absolutely hilarious! MIT should appreciate that. (I did. :D)</p>

<p>And what was the MIT guy talking about when he wrote on his blog about the original letter being taken out of context and appearing foolish? The letter did its job, didn't it, so why blanch at the sight of it being sent up by one of its recipients? I mean, isn't the letter itself a send-up of other college letters? And anyone who has read a college letter would recognize the context. It sounds just like many, many of the letters that I got from colleges--ones that I read and thought, "Oh, God, the same old schtick! :rolleyes:" Except the MIT letter knew it was "Oh, God, the same old schtick!"</p>

<p>Actually, all those letters seem to me like parodies of themselves. Like Swedish rap music. But what kind of world would we live in if we couldn't make fun of something just because it knew it was funny? Pffft!</p>
