I agree with what jaug1 said. Reid would be an excellent Democratic candidate, but I think so for another reason. Bush won this last election because of so-called moral values; Reid is more centrist in this category, as he is anti-abortion and against same-sex marriage--two of the biggest issues that allowed Bush to win. In combination with Obama (though I doubt that will actually happen), he could very well swing the Democrats back into power as the "moral" party (as they are ;))

as spoonyj mentioned the fight for the prez nod is going to be intense for both parties. I had actually been hearing rumors on the dem. side that some in the party want Janet Napolitano (gov of AZ) to be on the ticket (most likely VP position).

governor walner from virginia?

Cooperating (very publicly) with Newt Gingrich? Bill Frist? If Hillary isn't running in 08 I'll be surprised.

She'll get my vote.

I think Reid is a good moderate candidate with his centrist stance on many issues and his whole "Searchlight to Washington" story, but he wouldn't be my first choice because of his stance on abortion and same-sex marriage. I wonder if the independents he would win could offset the "core" Dems he would alienate. I don't think he'll run in 08. If he has presidential ambitions, I think he'll try to get in one more term in the Senate.

I'm looking forward to seeing Obama's political career develop. He has a wide appeal, a great history, and comes across as the "Washington outsider" that seems so important these days. Not to mention, he's a great speaker. I think he has a good chance of being the first black President. Obama '16!

I think he has a good chance of being the first black President. Obama '16!

riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!!

As a conservative:

-I'll vote libertarian if Jeb gets the nomination
-I'd like to see McCain, but there's the unfortunate problem of the SC primary...gosh I really hate how the South refuses to vote for any non-Southerner

-In my dream world, voting laws are changed to allow the ultimate presidential showdown: Ah-nold vs. Slick Willie, win-win situation for me.

-I'd vote for Obama
-A Hilary presidency is the stuff of my nightmares
-Reid is interesting
-Dean is insane, and very offensive. He lost any iota of respect he may have had when he said "many of them (Republicans) have never made an honest living"- sorry, but keep that crap in the Democratic Underground forums where it belongs.
-Another interesting Dem. player is the Senator from my home state: Russ Feigngold, who is definately setting himself up to be a major player.

who's gonna be her Monica Lewinsky? Lewinsky's husband!!!!

I would consider myself socially liberal and fiscally conservative
but i hate the thought of hilary clinton as president

McCain is My man All the way

i am a big fan of Feingold but i think he will lose badly in a general election.....hes a northerner, not a governor, jewish (too many anti semites),and extremely liberal. my support for the first election i can vote would have to go to governor richardson.

Is Obama African American. No racism, just wondering.

half black.... but he indentifies as black

i would love if she ran (and won) but i dont think she will

Obama has a future, its just not any time soon ( in the next 8 years) but he has the best chance to be the first african american president of any one who ever attempted

i would also be happy with joe biden

yeah obama would be great too

joe biden? PUMP PUMP PUMP IT UP oh not joe budden haha

it'd be great if condoleeza rice ran and managed to get the nomination(shes from the deep south, black, female, and conservative; shes got a chance at taking the south, mid-west, south-west, and a contender everywhere else. the problem is if she made it she would just barely scrape by, i cant see her taking any landslide victorys). against hillary(whos going to have trouble winning anything besides the NE, W/NW coast and michigan-area) would be an incredibly vicious race.

mccain would be ideal but he cant win the south in the primaries. hes too socially moderate, from the SW, cant get the religious vote but would get a lot of democratic convertees if he could get through primaries

IMO frist would be a disaster. he has the religious extremist vote locked up, but doesnt hold much swing in many other places currently. the primaries are going to be quite vicious in '08 due to the growing split in the republican party right now and frist and mccain epitomize that split. frist's senate actions have given him a lot of power in the upcoming primaries while helping mccain only a little, the big problem is that they've also stripped both of most of most of his power in the election against a candidate such as hillary(a very blue map)

maybe hillary will draw elizabeth dole out of the woodwork?

i see those as the three major contenders for the republican nomination, but as others have said its very much up in the air

sorry, i havent beent paying much attention to the possible democratic nominees. hillary is probably most likely though.

me = socially-issue by issue basis, fiscally-conservative.

I would like to see Condoleeza Rice vs. Hilary, though I don't like condi at all. I think Hilary would have a very good chance of winning only if the other candidate was also female. I remember a governor's race here in WV where the Democratic candidate was female, and the Repub. was male. Dem was vastly more qualified, more in touch, people agreed with her on most issues (WV was still a very Dem state then.) But--HUGE numbers of "I just couldn't vote for a woman" "A woman wouldn't be able to handle the work/pressure" "she'd get PMS" type comments, so I'd rather have 2 women to take care of that.

Does anyone think Colin Powell might be a possible candidate?

Hillary will probably run - and she will lose. There is no way that she will get within an iota of a majority in any southern state (I live in the south so I know - we WON'T vote for her).

McCain or Rudy Giuliani are potential candidates but neither would do well in the primaries in the South. I have heard rumors that Mark Sanford (Gov. of SC) might run. He is very libertarian. If he doesn't run, the Libertarian candidate will get my vote. I feel really confident that Sanford will run in 08 or '12 because he is really young. He is doing great things for out state but the republican leadership is stubborn and is halting his progress.

"the primaries are going to be quite vicious in '08 due to the growing split in the republican party"

What split is this that we are talking about? I hear republicans saying the same thing about democrats.
