Hillsdale College rejected me

@NatInTheHatt Since you like church choir, here’s a link to the YouTube video of the Hope College Christmas Vespers service from 2019: Hope College Christmas Vespers 2019 - YouTube. They had to do it differently in 2020 due to Covid restrictions, but this is how it’s traditionally done and you can also see the beautiful chapel on campus which was built in 1929. Dimnent Memorial Chapel. I hope you’ll keep us posted on your search!

Assuming that OP was correct in her assessment that her grades and scores were well-above what would have qualified her for admission, it’s clear that the school did not want her for some other reason.

This has kind of slipped by. OP, you say that you have “college scholarship money that will cover about 80% of the first 4 years”. First- UG should only need 4 years!

But more importantly, 80% of what? Hillsdale & Hope are ~$40K/year, so you have ~$32K/year available? If so, the remaining $8K is achievable through summer / holiday / part time jobs, in which case no financial aid is needed. So why would your application decision be “a money thing”?

@collegemom3717 I’ve wondered if this is connected to the fact that Hillsdale says: “As a matter of principle, Hillsdale doesn’t accept any federal or state subsidy to fund its operations, not even indirectly in the form of federal student aid. Instead, we provide for student aid with our own private funds.” Hillsdale College – Scholarships and Financial Aid. OP has not specified the source of the scholarship but I wonder if it’s a state scholarship that Hillsdale won’t accept. In that case, maybe Hillsdale did the OP a favor by directing elsewhere.
