So I'm really interested in learning Hindi/Urdu to pursue future involvement in South Asia. I noticed that it's not really talked about at all within the FLL. I did some research and found a copy of a proposal that a South Asian student interest group presented to the faculty in favor of introducing comprehensive Hindi curriculum. Apparently an adjuct professor was teaching a beginning class, capped at 15 students, and there was a waiting list at the time.

Does anyone know whether or not anything has changed since this proposal was given? Is Hindi taught at Georgetown?

Thanks!

Actually, I think I answered my own question.

Still, only one class?

Currently it's a two course sequence. So you take it fall and spring. There's 3 available seats for the fall right now.

I imagine you can take it at SAIS after that through the consortium, but if there's continued interest I'm sure Georgetown will turn it into a more full-fledged program.

This semester was the first time they offered it, so I think right now they are just gauging interest. I'm sure if there's enough, they will continue the program and add upper-level classes as well.
