Vassar, Sarah Lawrence, Hampshire, Kenyon, Ohio Wesleyan, Oberlin, Earlham

I would have to agree--and to a certain extent, UW-Madison too.

Yeah, I'm from the UW-Madison area and it is uber-hippie. Not only is it full of stoners, but it has an extremly liberal feel, very outspoken community, and just looking around you will see tons of hippies everywhere

Macalester College
no question

all kinds of hippies. .. the pot smoking, vegan types and the uberly socially involved tutoring at the local elementary school to help save the world kind. And everybody is a liberal, some to the extreme hippie degree. theres a back to nature club that sleep outside everynight...
not everybody is a hipppie, but the hippie kids all hang out together and as far as ive talked with them they love it.
the whole school is liberal

How hippie is middlebury?

Although not a classic hippie school, I read an article about Hamilton College in New York that indicated it belonged on that Reefer Madness list.

Humboldt State University

--most of the hippies you see on campus are from the local community and not the student body or professors.

--student body learns to tolerate the hippies or they mutate into them

--most professors who qualify for "hippie" status are rapidly approaching retirement. Today's professors are very liberal, but most wash, shave, and cut their hair. They also have more in their closets than tie-dyed shirts, jeans, and Birkies.

"Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed (10 chars)"

i think you already had 10 chars

Tiny Antioch University in Yellow Springs OH (home of Dave Chappelle).

Hippie/Hipster favorites: Brown (formerly but not as much now), Vassar, NYU, Reed, Hampshire, Evergreen, UVM, Weslyan, Colorado College, Smith, New School, Bard, Sarah Lawrence, UC-Berkeley (big but large hippie population)

i'll put in a word for Oberlin.
A bunch of Oberlin kids were on my flight over to Cleveland and they were all dressed very hippy-ish and sitting indian style in little circles.

Antioch just announced that it's closing. (Of course, going to a school that no longer offers any classes might be just the hippy thing to do.)

another vote for oberlin

I guarantee you and put it on all of my life that The University of Oregon is the biggest hippie school in the world.

I've always thought of a hippie school as a school with alternative education programs such as Hampshire's written evaluations, etc.

I think that the more artsy/hipster/free thinking individuals tend to gravitate more towards schools with different approaches to education.

haha oh my god, i could not take this

oh my gosh. The Evergreen State College. Seriously.

Two colleges on my short list are Eugene Lang (1st choice) and New College of Florida. They're definitely hippie schools. Liberal minded, socially/politically aware/active, fairly artsy (though not Art Schools, but LACs), different approach to teaching/learning. They're also, as LAC's small... But these two are smaller than normal. About 750 undergrades at New College (granted it really is a new college), and a little over a thousand at Lang.

Oh, and New College is a public university.

Warren Wilson College in North Carolina
