I know my scores are weak, but how much will they weigh a disavantaged rural community (minus the educated father) and my choosing to attend college?

and don't worry, I've got back-up-- got accepted to UGA early
Thanks everyone

I think u could get into Rice, Amherst, and Boston. Duke is a maybe. And Brown u might have problems with. The only thing I can see might be ur SAT scores that might hurt u. But depending on how u did on SAT II's it might not be a big deal.

thanks Kenshinsan! that was quick

good shot at BC..solid chance at Rice...you can get into the others but it is a bit of a longshot...

you wont get into brown, you wont get into Duke, you wont get into amherst, you might get into rice, you will get into boston college. it sounds like you go to a very poor high school and so a 4.0 GPA at your high school doesn't count for anything. a 2060 SAT is okay.. once again only good enough for BC really. And I dont see SAT IIs or AP Scores so I cant judge you since your 4.0 gpa means nothing really.

Duke: reach
Brown: reach
Rice: slight reach

urm
duke: match
brown: match
rice: match

Boston College - Match
Rice - Big Reach
Amherst College - Big Reach
Brown - Big Reach
Duke - Big Reach

Your URM status most likely will not help you at Rice, Amherst, Brown, or Duke. Your M+V SATs scores are below the 25th percentile for each of those schools and you'll be competing against URMs with much higher SAT scores and/or kids with with similar SAT scores who have hooks - athletics, legacies, etc.

I agree w/ darkhope, you're urm will give a fighting chance at those ivies and pretty much lock up the others...

check college data website, atleast for jhu, urm status gives you a large bump because of thier holistic approach. Usually this means you can have 300 lower sat points and gpa can be around .4 lower unweighted than average gl! lucky...
edit: holistic approach means they don;t use point systems like what michigan used to use which was why they got sued for their policies lol due to their point system

well thanks for the input everyone!

Amherst flew me up there for the DIVOH program a couple of months ago.. they said u had like a 60% acceptance rate if you were chosen for DIVOH.. does anyone know if thats truly a good indicator?
