my parents were not educated here and my counselors at school are no help. any advice would really be appreciated

So you’re obviously an amazing student and I really love your essay idea. I’m sorry that your counselors are no help! As I’m sure you’ve read online, Yale and other schools of that caliber are very selective. That being said, its not impossible to be accepted. I just think that you have a lot to offer and you should ensure that you have a well rounded list so you don’t end up with no where (not to scare you).

You shouldn’t apply to as many schools listed below. Also, note that the order of the list will change depending on what major you are interested in. For instance, if you want to go to Wharton at UPenn, it would jump to the ‘Dream Schools’ category because its crazy hard to get into. I’m also taking some liberties with the ‘Realistic Reaches’ category because most of these schools have very very low acceptance rates, but assuming you apply ED to one of them it would become more realistic. However, most schools in the dream school category are restrictive EA.

Here’s a sample list for you:

Dream Schools
Yale
Princeton
Columbia
Stanford

@chem92128 I agree, bullying is a common topic. But, if you connect it to how its helped you grow intellectually (if possible) if could still work. I would consider something that is more personal. How a specific event changed your life, how a person changed your life (but make sure its still about you and not a person), how learning something unique changed your life. It should really be about something your passionate about.
