Being half hispanic coming from two different cultures, what would my chances be to get a bid from a "white fraternity" ? Considering the fact that I have a high degree of credentials & come from a good socioeconomic background as well as a good social background. Also, does anyone know approximately how many hispanics are currently actives in a "white fraternity"

You will be fine. There are 16 houses, my son is going through rush now and has really enjoyed it. Just leave all your cargo shorts at home! Don’t get too caught up in the percentage of minorities. It is much different than years in the past.

@rileyschmitt1 I think that if you come in and meet people (which is what our delayed recruitment allows for) you will meet people both in and out of the Greek system to become friends with. I have known a number of students from Hispanic, Indian, African-American, Asian backgrounds who have been a part of predominantly white fraternities. Obviously some are more open than others, but I think you’re better off in a welcoming environment. Good luck with the process if you enroll at Ole Miss and choose to participate in recruitment!

If I may chime in a few months late on this post, my view is that being half-Hispanic won’t be a problem at all. I graduated from Ole Miss 25 years ago, and we had a number of “Hispanic” members in my fraternity, as well as members of Levantine Christian origin. Most were among the most popular members. I think this is the case for many if not most of the fraternities on campus.

My view is that most Mississippians do not “see” Hispanics as being a different race at all. If you dress and act like the other guys you will be treated like everyone else. When you go through rush, don’t make a big production about being a Hispanic, just as I wouldn’t go around screaming “I’m Scot-Irish!” I don’t know how you will do in rush because I don’t know you. But if you are smart, personable, and attractive that’s enough, so don’t worry about it.
