did any of you complete the primary sources readings?

where can you get these? good looking out. i wasn’t even aware we had any hw to do before class -__-

ursa>studylist>weblink for Hist1A

You’ll see the syllabus there and a Primary Sources link

yeaa i found it, but damn are we supposed to print out/buy the course reader and read all that before first class? they didn’t even send us an e-mail or anything cause i know for chem 14a the prof. sent us all an e-mail of what we need to do. now i’m panicking that i might have hw for my other classes too cause of this class

I’m really not sure either. I read Gilgamesh and Hammurabi (part of it). It says complete all the readings, so I’m guessing we might have to…even though he broke it down along with the schedule. Maybe we just have to finish whatever it says on the syllabus for week 1?

sorry this is making you panic

btws. you posted this on the facebook wall too, huh? I was going to comment there, but it got deleted.

It says this on the syllabus:

Requirements: Students must complete the readings prior to their first class meeting. They must be prepared to discuss these readings intelligently in their sections. They must complete two short papers; they must pass a mid term examination and a final examination.

That outlines the whole course, no? Doesn’t “complete the readings prior to their first class meeting” mean complete the readings before the class discussion session? I didn’t get an email or anything either.

EDIT: It also says this:

Week 1. Sept. 27-Oct. 1. The Beginnings of Civilization

Readings: Kishlansky, Ch. I. pp. 1-9.
.

Week 2. October 4-8 Mesopotamia

Readings: Kishlansky pp. 8-24
Epic of Gilgamesh
The Code of Hammurabi

If the schedule is planned out like that–certain readings for certain weeks–why would we have to read ALL of them by the very first class meeting?

Yeah, I thought so. It’s just First Class Meeting made me think that we might have to read everything before that day. But, his schedule did break it down and he didn’t email anything. That makes sense. Thank You :)

Yeaa that’s why i got confused too. The syllabus says to complete before First Class meeting, but the schedule has certain readings for each class and i don’t get the point of reading all the readings before the class anyways

no, you don’t have to read all of them right now you crazy first years lol. i took the same class last year, and you split all the readings into weeks.

however, i do suggest reading all of Week 1’s material to get a head start.

you’d have to be an incredibly intense student to read all of them before class even starts! :)
