Is a history credit required in college? I received a 4 on the AP exam and I'm unsure why I didn't receive a 5 considering my SAT II was a 790. Nonetheless I was wondering whether there was a waiver exam for exemption at some of the top colleges, which require a 5, or whether I could take another, possibly easier class. I'm not to fond of going through a whole semester of American History or History for that matter if I will not pursue the subject as a career. I am also taking AP Economics and was not sure whether I could use that as a credit. Would this also be a hard test to make a 5 on?

From my experiences most universities will not allow you to use AP courses in replace of graduation requirements, even if you did get a 5. If you do score high enough they will grant you credits for your AP course (usually 3) that can be used as elective credits (towards your 120 graduation credits). However that may be incorrect, and some institutions may exempt you from requirements if you pass your AP exam. Mine didn't (I just received the credits) and other universities I applied to would only give credits for AP courses. Also, most universities will not allow you to test out of required courses. Instead you can test into more difficult courses, but you cannot simply test out of a course and still receive credit. So if your university has a history requirement, then you will most likely still have to take a history course. On a positive note you will have many many courses to choose from if your university should have that requirement.

You should look at the university's website to view it's AP policy.
