Hey all,

I just started looking into the ACT essay and was dismayed to find that the prompts were things like making high school longer or enforcing uniforms for students. I'm much better at writing with objective History/Literature examples (SAT style) than personal experiences (which seems to fit prompts like these). Yet, I've heard that some CCer's have been able to successfully incorporate hist/lit into their ACT essays. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I’m sure if you could incorporate a historical or literary example, it would be beneficial. Concrete examples are always crucial if you want a high score. The only issue would be that ACT prompts tend to be much more specific than those on the SAT. My essay (which received a 12) was about whether or not allowing students a more active role in the classroom would be detrimental to learning, and I ended up using mostly hypothetical examples to illustrate what I saw as the pros and cons. However, if you could come up with a specific historical or literary example, that would likely add a great deal to your essay.
