HKU (Hong Kong) or UBC (Canada)?

Hello!

I’m a student who is interested in life sciences (not looking at becoming a doctor, but really inclined towards research).

I have received offers from both the University of Hong Kong and University of British Columbia.
From what I understand, both the universities are about equally competent when it comes to what I want to pursue. I know that the differences arise when it comes to distance from my home country as well as the cost as an international student.

However, it’s a bit harder to find information on further aspects, especially when it comes to comparing both the universities side-by-side.

I would like some more information (other than what’s available on their websites) about other aspects such as employability of graduates, international student life, research and hands-on opportunities, drawbacks, internships, student culture, life in Hong Kong/Vancouver, and anything else that can help me decide between these two universities.

I understand that it might be difficult to provide comparative information about both the universities (they’re not even on the same continent lol), so if anyone reading this can provide me information about even ONE of these universities, that would be great (both, of course, would be a bonus).

Thanks a lot!

TL; DR - Please let me have information about HKU and/or UBC other than what’s there on their websites.

Vancouver will be freer in spirit/habits than Hong Kong. Less hot/humid but cool/humid. Students are high achievers but not as high-strung as at HKU.
