@michelleger: it will be SO COOL if everyone ends up somewhere in Hong Kong, haha that'll be awesome. What is your requirement again? Is it 1850 + 2 4s in AP?

I got an offer for BBA from HKUST and a scholarship of HK 40,000 per year. But it is only now some of you said that HKUST is not that decent. Sigh... it plunges me into a dilemma now.

@Donutz: same here! I got a pretty easy conditional offer and I get scholarship if I get a certain points in IB..which I'm not that really concerned about. and given the fact that HK costs a lot less than US already, additional scholarship is really tempting

oh I didn't know HKU only asked for HKD 10,000 for the deposit. HKUST asked me to pay 20,000. -_-;;;;;;;;;

Hi people...I just got offered an interview to the HKUST Dual Degree Program in Technology and Management...any one had it before, or any advice please? Thanks!

So, honestly, how good is HKUST? And is it worth going?

I'm so going to HKU instead if I could...end of story.

@Flibb

I had a interview for the program and check my posts a few pages back. I wrote about my interview

I also recently just received an offer but its 40 points in IB. Really high...

@TheGrand

Thanks for the very informative post!

I agree with you that HKU is more reputable than HKUST but HKUST was ranked number in Asia by Asian finance week or something. (Don't really know and it doesn't really matter)

But yea I have a question, I applied for IBGM as well and if I get an offer for it, is it worth choosing over the Dual Degree in Technology and Management program which seems to be very special.

@ysbera: Thanks, your posts were really informative! Might I ask...did you apply for early or regular decision?

@theGrand- yup, but actually its 3 tests with 4's in the AP, and its one or the other. SAT with 1850 and essay of no less than 8, or the AP scores. and then i also have to get 85% average in my grade 12 classes. im doing the SAT again as backup, if i could only get a better essay subscore i would be set...=P

and to everyone asking about UST's rep, not that i know much about it or am a reputable source, but i sort of thought as UST as more like MIT and HKU like harvard. not that they are of that caliber, but in the sense that UST is geared towards the real math and science nerds(i mean that in a very good connotation and way!) and has a heavier workload, harder curve, etc. and HKU, like harvard, has got the top reputation, but may not actually have as hard of a workload, still an excellent school but main difference might be namesake...but i really have no idea what im talking about, just my input from what ive gathered! and ive heard job prospects are basically the same with an HKU or UST degree, so i would go with the school that gives you the best deal, and if you are very proficient in math and science and can handle heavy workloads pick UST if you want. on facebook there is a group called something like "you know you went to HKUST if..." and it lists universal things students have gone thru, i.e. tons and way more projects and exams than other schools, beautiful campus, etc. but honestly im not a reliable source =P just my thoughts =)

I applied on Dec 16th, Early decision, received my offer April 2nd

wow, that is great, especially the full scholarship...congrats!

@Donutz - It REALLY depends on what you are looking for. For business, I think HKU has a better overall reputation, BUT HKUST's GBUS (Global Business Program) is one of the top in Hong Kong (their offers for IB are probably 38+ min. because it is very prestigious). In general, HKUST has better facilities for Science and Technology (duh), and its dual program is very reputable too. The work load is more or less the same in both schools - dont bother about the rumours. HKUST certainly has a more proper and beautiful campus, but it takes about 30-40 minutes to get into the city - HKU is IN the city. The general calibre in HKU is higher. What are your most important considering factors? Maybe if you ask a question or two I can answer here :)

@ysbera - I recall you put IBGM as your second or third choice? IBGM has a compulsory interview (whether phone or physical) and it is basically ONLY for the shortlisted candidates. But HKU kinda do the priority thing according to your choices. But, the dual degree program IS ONE OF THE few best in HKUST and there is no doubts to that. I personally prefers IBGM because I am not into science and IBGM delves into politics, public admin. law, sociology etc etc and because of their location (I am a city boy). Think of it like Huntsman vs Jerome - haha, if you get what I mean.

Excuse for my poor English here, I am in a rush

I got an offer and scholarship from HKUST bba - super easy requirement.
I am still waiting for HKU though.

@SDG1: Congrad! I wish i can get at least a quarter of full scholarship… but i guess it’s not likely to happen…

How do you guyz pay for ur deposit?
What is “bank draft”?
I am not living in my country, so it seems very complicated to pay deposit…

So I guess everyone’s waiting on HKU’s offers
Sorry rubichino, would love to help you, but I just have no clue…
I need to read in context to understand hahaha. Is this for UST too?

@TheGrand: Yes, I am referring to HKUST’s deposit paying, but I eventually solved the problem! I am not Thai, but go to an international school in Thailand. I guess what my dad did in the morning was that he asked his acquaintance in the head office in my country to pay… It must be done this way since most of my family’s assets is saved in a bank in my country, not in Thailand. Otherwise, it will get really really complicated and wasting hell lot of money when exchanging from currency to currency… and Yup, I am also waiting for HKU offers!! But even if i get admitted, I would rather get disappointed if they put another condition just like HKUST did to me…

@rubichino: You will most likely get a condition offer from HKU too - if you are admitted. The reason is simple - they admit on the basis on the strength of your examination results - after evaluating you as a whole - so if you don’t have actual results to show the universities, they will not give you unconditional offers. Let me guess, you are probably studying in NIST/RIS/BPS? - and you are Chinese?

@TheGrand: Oops… Then I have no choice but getting at least 4 on my ap subjects… no matter what… :(… If what you are saying is correct, HK admission style is really similar to that of my country… Btw, I am not Chinese! but I do go to RIS! Wow, how did you know my school’s name? Are you also an candidate from Thailand?
