Hmm...What about me?

So I'm a freshman, and my freaky asian parents are going ballistic already about which colleges to go to...(typical conversation: Dad: "Go to harvard." Me: "ok, dad.") Therefore, I'm posting here...

City: Fremont, CA
School: Expensive, Palo Alto private school
Ethnicity: Asian

Academics:
GPA: Most likely 4.0 UW, maximum with weight.

Courses:
1) AP Calculus BC (yes, i'm a freshman)
2) Spanish 4 Honors (AP next year)
3) 9th grade eng. (no other possible options)
4) Theology (I think this class is a joke)
5) Honors Physics, but most likely going to test out into one of the following: AP Physics, Bio, or Chem.
6) World History (no other possible options)
7) Writing Lab (requirement from school)

EC:
1) Cross Country
2) Soccer
3) Tennis
4) Robotics
5) Spirit Planning
6) Tutoring
7) Orchestra

Mhm...so I've talked to the guy that schedules my classes a million times. Initially he put me in Algebra 1. =] Basically, he says my schedule is maxed out, so dont say anything about taking more/better classes.

I plan to take AP Psychology, AP Stat, AP Eco., AP Enviro., AP Art History, basically every god-damn AP I can take.

Also, I'm planning to go big on Orchestra and community service in the next few years...(play violin/piano...i know im asian)

Applying to:
Ivy League, UC Berkely, and other assorted 2nd-tier or higher universities.

Thanks for reading.

HA! My parents are the exact opposite… they’re like, “I wouldn’t mind if you just go to Berkeley” and I’m like “Mom, my sister’s at Harvard. Wouldn’t it be weird if I just applied for UCLA or Berkeley?” and they’d be all like, “Just don’t kill yourself” and they threw a hissy fit when I tried to transfer out of Physics H (our school doesn’t have Physics AP) and into Chem AP even though I only have 4 APs this year (without the Chem).

Kind of early to tell without an SAT I/SAT II and it’s also slightly ambiguous as to which EC’s you’re going to stick with/drop/add at this point. Also, try to stick with one EC and really really excel at it (think international level). For Ivies, it’s quality of quantity.

Chance back? I’m thinking about the same schools as you are.

Thanks (:

Come on. I guess it’s impressive that you’re taking Calculus, but how can you expect anyone to chance you when you don’t have a single high school grade, test score, or EC? Anything can happen in four years.

There are hundreds of people, perhaps thousands that have taken calc 2 by end of freshman year.
Don’t flatter yourself.

There is no way to chance you because you have nothing. Your ECs show nothing, you have no test scores/etc.

Don’t post a chance thread until you’re a junior/senior.

mhm sorry. Im dam stupid and i know it. I am yet one of hundreds, perhaps thousands of those god damn nerdy stuck up nerds. So yes, you are right. I’m sorry for asking, for wasting your precious time, minnesota. And if you cant see the sarcasm in all of this, you’re just like me.

Geez, don’t take it too personal. A true CC thrives on criticism and makes him/herself better once he/she realizes that the people applying to the same schools the he/she are applying to have better stats. It’s what makes this community go 'round. It was a little too harsh on advanced Lawlz’s part, though, but only a little; it’s a pretty typical chance response.

Come back in 2 years. ktnxbye

Since you’re a freshman, you have time to work with a top counselor who will guide your activities from now through writing your college applications. Tell your parents for about the cost a year at your high school, they can further invest in getting you into those Harvard gates. Just Google ‘top private college counselors.’

Hey there I am from Fremont too =)
I don’t know why ppl are being so rude to you…I think you are adorable! haha.
So far it looks like you are well on your way to securing a seat at UCB and several Ivy’s. But I guess you won’t really know until you take the tests.
My only advice would be to do something extraordinarily unique for EC that will set you apart from the rest.

ok i lied…i have one more piece of advice…try to squeeze in some fun. overachieving can get you into top schools and develop razor sharp intellect, but there is far more to life than this. developing excellent social skills and knowledge of the “real world” will help you tremendously in college as well as your career.

I 100% agree with SeeHerFly. Priority #1 is to make sure you relax a little bit, you don’t want to burn out before junior year where your grades will really matter. Priority #2 should be to start a unique EC, something unique and interesting and do excellently at it, or try to get involved in some research – living by Stanford, you may be able to work something out if you push really hard. But honestly, you’re a bit early in the game to be stressing, so just try to stay clear of this site as much as possible.

You’re a freshman (PERIOD)

In all honesty, you should come back in two or three years, there’s absolutely no “chancing” that anyone can do right now. You seem to be more than capable of doing well in high school, add in a strong EC and work your way up to the top ranks of this extracurricular.

Have a good life.

1) You’re only a freshman. Come back later.
2) Work on your ECs for Harvard etc. Not too special. Asian ppl with lots of APs and very good at math but average elsewhere who play violin tend to be rejected in droves if you’ve noticed looking around the site(which is nearly all asians lol). You seem to be on a solid path for lower ivies, berkeley, but find something you’re interested in and is special-er (too late at night for correct grammar usage) for a selling point.

And Advanced Lawlz does have a pretty good point, no offense.
