I have contacted the alumni office with no success in trying to identify hockey alumni living in southern california. I play hockey and it would help to have a former player observe my skills and speak to the coach.

I would contact Coach Meagher at Bowdoin and ask about the scouting processs

Will he review game film? Also, will your team be heading out east for any tournaments --that might be a time to have them see you skate

You might also consider participating in one of the summer hockey showcases here in the northeast--Road to College Hockey Combine is a good one--it is held at Milton Academy...there were tons of D1 and D3 coaches there including all the NESCAC coaches

Another camp/showcase that has alot of NESCAC coaches in attendance is
National Hockey Training Camp--that is held at the Univ of Southern Maine
during the summer

I would echo Momof2sons' suggestion that you should contact Coach Meagher regarding the best way for the Bowdoin coaching staff to assess your skills.

The other possibility would be for you to come east and play in one of the showcases. Those are almost always scouted by the Bowdoin staff. The Beantown Classic is a showcase strongly favored by college coaches for scouting players - BeanTown Classic Hockey Tournaments-Contact Us. There is a beantown showcase in March. But before you sign up for that event, contact the Bowdoin staff and make sure that they will be in attendance . .

The Beantown is probably the premier tournament---wall to wall scouts --NHL, D1 and D3.

You do have to tryout for this tournament and it can be really tough to make a team and thus skate in the real tournament, however, I know that Bowdoin coach did come down to watch one of my son's friends during his tryout for
the Beantown...that friend is now at Bowdoin and on the hockey team

Th try-outs are the August Beantown showcase. The one in March is by invitation only so he needs to get coaches and such to put in his name for inclusion on a team but he does not need to try out
