Are coaches still recruiting for Fall ‘23 admission into the 22-23 hockey season, or is all of the recruiting done by the time this summer wraps up?
Are you talking men’s or women’s hockey?
If men’s…Is you student in HS, playing on a HS team? In a HS that sends students directly to college hockey (not many do)? Playing AAA hockey?
Most men play 3 years of junior hockey (or higher levels) before they go to college. Which means male recruited hockey players are typically 21 year old freshmen when they start school. This is true at all levels, even d3.
If women’s, there are likely some college spots still available for those graduating HS in 2022, but one would have to check with coaches.
Creampuff - if this is women’s ice hockey you are referring to, here are some key dates:
June 15 - players who are going into their Jr. year, who are top recruits for D1 schools will have coaches reach out to them - these are typically players who are a lock for a D1 roster and will get multiple scholarship offers
July 1 (or right after) - top D3 schools/NESCACs approach their top recruits who are going into their Sr. year
Beyond those 2 key dates college hockey recruiting goes on all the time. Just because the player is in the fall of their senior year and hasn’t been recruited yet doesn’t mean it’s over. A teammate of my D was recruited to play for a D1 Hockey East program in February of her senior year which is considered very late. If D3 is what you are looking for there are plenty of coaches who are now actively recruiting for their 2023 fall class. The NESCACs are typically done by now, although there may be a few roster spots open, but most all other D3s are having active conversations with players.
