We already know it will be difficult to get DD home from school for holidays because of where we live no matter what school she attends. When I was in BS there were trips over holidays, is that still the norm for kids who aren’t going home?
For my kids’ school, no school sponsored trips with the exception of some one or two week service trips during the 3 week spring break. For Thanksgiving break, the school could help arrange for a student to stay with a local family. of another student if needed.
I believe @doschicos experience is applicable to most/all BS. No trips for Thanksgiving or Winter breaks, while some schools may have trips for Spring break.
Westover does do some trips (Boston/NYC/DC) during the shorter breaks, and also arranges for international students to stay with Westover host families during longer breaks.
Ours did home stays for the longer holidays, ski trips for midwinter break, and service trips (juniors and seniors only) for spring break.
No students are allowed to stay on campus over Thanksgiving, or Christmas. Students must also leave during spring break, but the dates are more flexible, since there are many trips departing, there are a few athletic competitions, etc. We brought one of DS’ roommates home with us last year for Thanksgiving. He was from the south of Mexico and was not able to go home for the week. He did not know much about our holiday, and so we very much enjoyed having him with us and showing him what Thanksgiving was all about. He was an excellent guest and his parents were lovely and thanked us profusely. He also enjoyed the other “holiday” that week, Black Friday, and was very eager to be taken to our huge local malls to see what the fuss was about. lol
