Holy c$@p our kitchen is flooded, so much for painting our cabinets

Continuation of the new fridge install gone wrong, split from thumper’s kitchen cabinet painting thread.

So good news, our insurance company covers loss of use including rent, food, laundry, etc for up to 12 months

That’s fabulous. A number of years ago, a friend had a serious water leak…lots and lots of damage…all new kitchen, all new flooring everywhere.

They stayed at a nice hotel in a suite the whole time…and ate in the restaurant. All charged to the insurance company.

The best part was it was winter and they had an indoor pool. Kids loved it, and so did we (as guests).

DHs concern right now is saving the alcohol out of the beverage fridge. He’s making trips back and forth to the garage fridge at the moment :joy:

You refrigerate your alcohol?

It’s beer/angry orchard and cuervo mini margarita bottles. It sits under the bar; I already moved the good stuff

His post in our friend group’s group text just now summed it up:
"

“A brave lad breached the bubble in an attempt to save the alcohol, unfortunately an Angry Orchard did not make it!”

Shrinkage?

Same thing happened to us Tigerwife92. Replacing floor in open floorplan also. Good luck! Hopefully you can get everything you want in terms of new cabinets, floor colors, etc. It’s a lot to deal with!!

Oh no; are they still working on it?

It’s a long story, Tigerwife92! Basically, we deprioritized our kitchen remodel (after flood) to focus on a different, time-sensitive remodel project. Appliances are functional, just all the wood is damaged and in need of replacement. So no visitors for quite some time and I cannot wait to move forward with this long-delayed project. Glad to see yours seems to be moving forward!!

Ugh, so sorry. That sucks!

This was us 10 years ago (seems like far less time). We had just had hardwood installed in living/dining and our bedroom when a pipe in the slab beneath the powder room floor burst.
Yes, we got an entirely new kitchen but it was traumatic and I discovered that I hate working with contractors.
We stayed in the house since the upstairs bedrooms were empty and except for the floors the damage downstairs was confined to the kitchen and powder room but if there had been a suite type hotel close by that may have been a better choice.
We will all be crossing fingers that your repair/rebuild goes as smoothly as possible. Keep us updated!

Thanks; so far our insurance company has been great, but I have a feeling the subrogation won’t be fun.

You won’t have to do much with respect to subrogation. It’s your insurance company lawyers who will be doing the heavy lifting. We had a similar flood situation last year—I feel your pain. Good luck!!

Yep; we haven’t had the best luck in the past with subrogation. Usually they want to settle quickly without regard for the impact of the difference on your premiums :crossed_fingers:
