Food Changes

I've been reading some of the posts on food at hopkins, and many of you agree with the Princeton Review "horrible food" ranking. Does anybody know if Hopkins got their act together and changed their menu for this upcoming year? I'd love to hear that the JHU cafes are making their food better in response to such negative criticism. Any word?

Same here even i would wish to know if changes in the menu were being initiated to get over the 'horrible food' ranking. Btw, i am a vegetarian and would also wish to know whether there is good veg food at hopkins?

I'm eating food at the Terrace and it's not TOO bad. But I resent their wannabe-Chinese-food. Good god, I HATE that crap...yeah. It's not too horrible. Their pizzas are great, but I'm sure you can't live off that for an entire year. The food in the surrounding area isn't too horrible either. In anycase, I think the food will be the least of your worries. :)

If you're from the Westcoast, pig out on In and Out before you come here!!!!!!!

By the way, I heard vet-pre-college students say that the food used to be A LOT worse. But now...not so much. :) :)

they changed companies or something... the food's slightly better, but it's not something you'll be wanting to eat everyday. The breakfast is horribly repetitive: Eggs, some type of potatoes (usually hash browns or tater tots), waffles or pancakes. there's always cereal. in otherwords, food's pretty bad. I'm the pre-college vet that soymilk is talking about; some people got food posioning i heard and got angry with the school. that's probably why the food company changed.

how is the surronding foods? someone said it wasn't too bad, but is there many resturants around hopkins? also how are their prices?

check out campusfoods.com, they have a bunch of restaurants that you can get to deliver to campus. not too expensive. and like z3ro said, the food is bearable..you just might not want to have it everyday

how much are the meal plans? They really should not be extraordinarily expensive if they are so unbearable.

I just want food that's remotely healthy. Do they have any of that?

Thanks, redcrosseknight -- good site. The semester prices are higher than my brother's school.

At least the pictures of the food look good!

i'm not sure how much this is related, but i really wanted to know. are you allowed to have a small fridge in your dorm? also is there kitchen of some kind with at least microwave and other appliances?

You're allowed to have a fridge in the dorms. If you're in the AMR's or Building A or B, you can't have microwaves in your rooms. As for kitchens, from the JHU Housing website, "Kitchenettes in Wolman and McCoy have two stove-top burners, a sink and a compact refrigerator. Common kitchens equipped with a stove and oven, sink, refrigerator, and microwave are located in the basement of AMR I & II and Buildings A & B."

thank you for the info! i needed to know that.

im only in high school but i do center for talented youth programs at JHU in the summer, and believe me, the food sucks at terrace. we lived off fries, cereal, pizza, and salad for three weeks. the homestyle stuff--dont even try it. its like plastic. but theres definitely some cool restaurants in walking distance...the paper moon cafe = favorite, and gaga's for ice cream.

well...the thing is...

the food isn't THAT horrible. i find that many of the students here are just picky.

i'm from Cali where a lot of my friends get to boast about their "GREAT" food. over break, I visited my friend at UCDavis and it was no different, maybe even worse, than the food at Hopkins (although they also do have a pizza hut and taco bell readily available to them ON campus...b*astards!)

if food at the dorms are THAT big of a problem, students usually dont have much trouble preparing some simple pasta on their own, or going out to eat every now and then. Also, students DO tend to have specific favorites at places like Terrace or Wolman Station anyway.

in the end, food is one of the least of your worries here at hopkins. heck, i dont even complain about how gassy the food makes me. although my roommate might have some complaints ;)

the food is also going to improve greatly. i'm just waiting for that to happen

fyi..i think the meal plan thing got updated, so here is the link they gave in HI:

=)

oooh. me like, me like.

haha.. so what about vegetarian good? is it easily available? and edible? (cos some ppl consider dried mouldy salad leaves good enough for poor ol' vegetarians like me :) )

actually i really liked the salad bar

Kosher Korner; 'nuff said.
