OK I just applied to a big list of schools as a Materials Engineering major, but the thing is that I don't know if the job market is the best for them (I heard from a friend at UTexas that Materials Engineering is the worst kind of engineering for jobs out there) Is that really true? Can I earn a Master's in something like Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering after earning a Bachelor's in Materials Engineering? What companies out there hire Materials Engineers?

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

perhaps consider majoring in Mech.E in undergrad and THEN going to grad school for Mat.E…reason being that
- most Mat.E jobs in industry or academia require grad school anyhow
- mechanical/chemical undergrad would provide a foundation for entrance to Mat.E grad school + if you change your mind after undergrad you could still pursue a ton of other options (ecspecially with Mech.E undergrad)

If your absolutely sure u like to study Mat.E then go for it! I only have heard that Mat.E has a lot of practical applications…the dept. at my university is super active in patents and R&D 100 awards…they’re always pulling out sweet stuff…like they got a patent for some special coating for rolls royce to help make jet engines more efficient…I also hear it’s a really hard major too : )

haha thanks. I am still undecided as to what I am gonna pursue. I am really looking at this one program at UCLA where you major in Mat. Eng. but you put emphasis on Electronic Materials. Using that, you could get into EE for grad school, right?
