Hey guys I posted a thread a few days ago about my personal statement. I was wondering if i should talk about the point in my life when i used to be homeless or a drug dealer. I dont want colleges to think that I will bring drugs to their campuses so I was thinking about laying off that topic. I would rather just talk about when i was homeless when i entered high school. Hopefully it will compensate for my grades. I never received an F or D. Give me your feedback.

If you guys want to read my statement just say so. I need hardcore feedback.

I’m not an expert but I would assume writing about dealing drugs is a huuuuuge no-no.

Homelessness is absolutely something to address in the Additional Information section of the Common App and to have your GC (guidance counselor) address in her rec. Drug dealing, however, is no-go, at least IMO. It is, I imagine, a byproduct of your homelessness, and not necessarily something that needs to be brought to light separately.

Thank you for your advice. Do you mind reading my personal statement and telling me how I should revise it?

I would stay away from illegal activities in your essay. It tends to give people a negative view. Homelessness, on the other hand, will definitely help you in the admissions process, in a utilitarian point of view.

Good Luck!
