I am a homeschooler. I was wondering what types of things I should keep in mind when preparing for college. EX: what will they be looking at as grades are obsolete? What colleges should I look at as a homeschooler? I’m considering going to college in switzerland. What is your advice on this matter. A nice discussion on my future would be appreciated as well as any advice etc. Please feel free to make inquiries and hopefully I’ll benefit from your advice. Thank you.
Joe

If you are interested in going to school in Switzerland, you need to contact the school(s) you are interested in and find out what sort of documentation they are looking for.

Here is my general advice based on watching a significant group of homeschoolers successfully go through the college app. process for US schools - I would suggest that you acquire at least 12 "data points" that colleges can use to compare you to traditionally schooled peers. These have to be quantitative bits of info that have an easily recognized meaning. They could be grades from college or distance learning courses, AP scores, SAT II scores, or awards from well known academic competitions. But you need at least 12, and more would be better. There are very few colleges that have the resources or inclination to figure out who you are and what you have done by plowing through a large portfolio filled with long reading lists and detailed summaries or examples of your work. You may choose to seek out and only apply to those schools (probably small LACs). Or you can supply enough data points that any school can quickly tell whether or not they want you, or at least whether or not they are interested enough to go through extensive primary material.
