<p>Yes, they do exist. I don't know of many, but informally I've heard that there is a decent sized subculture of LGBTs at Duke, and one of my friends is in a gay relationship right now. I haven't heard of couples ever being given trouble, but I have heard talk that parts of Duke aren't particularly friendly culture-wise (people will use words like "faggot" and phrases like "That's gay").</p>

<p>They do exist-- and quite honestly, my most openly gay friend is also extremely widely respected on campus.</p>
<p>Yea, I agree, I've known a few openly gay students here, and I've never seen them treated any differently from anyone else.</p>
