Homosexuality Makes Up How Much of Student Body?

Of the Ivies and Top Non-Ivies, how much of the student body population is homosexual?

I'm not homophobic, but I don't want to end up going to a school where every guy I meet is attracted to other guys!

ummm ... probably teh same percentage as in the entire population? i don't think they're that under/over represented ...

lol, did you really think there was a school where over 10% of the students were gay? sorry if that sounds mean, but sometimes i wonder about people ...

Just means more girls for you...

Only 10% of the students at Yale are hetero. It's true.

The top Five colleges where the Gay Community is Accepted for 2005 are:

Sarah Lawrence College (Bronxville, NY)

New College of Florida (Sarasota)

Brandies University (Boston)

There NO school even close to being that way. This isn't something you should have to worry about.

i beg to differ...i heard vassar is kind of like that..haha.

Well, West Coast schools are probably more over-represented, just because more probably 'come out'.

I posted this question on the Yale forum. Byerly cited the Yale Daily News: "one in four, and maybe more."

At the school I will attend, I heard that 1 out of 3 guys is gay.. don't know the figures for girls.

rule #1: dont trust anything byerly says, especially when it comes to yale.

Apparently, the "one in four" statistic dates back to 1987 when a Wall Street Journal reporter claims it was mentioned in a notice sent out to prospective students. It is not a reliable statistic, but the gay community at the time adopted the mantra anyway just for fun. Yale has yet to determine the approximate %.

I find this post extremely funny, mainly because it seems like the person who post this, probably has an issue with their own masculinity or sexuality, that he doesn't want to be challenged or realize that what he thought he was, really isn't.

I think this topic is slightly homophobic on his part.

But I'll contribute to this post, Boston University I've heard has a pretty big gay community.

Stick to a religious or conservative schools and you'll find less gays.

Who cares if their gay, as long as they don't hit on you.

But I know one really weird guy who takes a strange advantage from it. He's straight, but hits on gay guys so they'll do favors for him (not sexual), like let him into places or turn a blind eye to something. It is something i have brought myself to do.

But I'll contribute to this post, Boston University I've heard has a pretty big gay community.

I heard this too. Kinda sucks for me, kinda doesnt. More girls for me :-D
I heard American has a TON of gays. I know a gay guy goin there too.

^When I said i hit on gay guys to get stuff, I mean't to say i hadn't. Big difference

Any college with a prominent theater or communications department will have a disproportionately larger percentage of gay males: Emerson and BU in Boston, for example. I attended Northwestern back in the 1970s, and many of the theater majors were gay. (One of my acquaintances back then is now the leading expert on Judy Garland)

Often, those who hate gay guys the most are probably a bit homosexual themselves because the presence of gays pose challenge/threat to their perceived masculinity.

"Bica have you ever been to the West Coast? You know not everybody over here is gay, contrary to what your mid-western rumors and stereotypes tell you. Besides I would rather be around a bunch of fags than around a bunch of ignorant rednecks."

haha, that was great.

i've also heard the same about yale, and have a gay (in the closet) friend there.

here's an interesting article on the topic from the yale herald...

http://www.yaleherald.com/archive/frosh/2001/unity/p41emily.html

I don't think that bica is homophobic, just distressed because the guys she falls for happen to be gay.

I just really wasn't feeling the West Coast Stereotype lol, my bad.
