Honor Code (or lack thereof)

Hi all,

I go to a fairly competitive public high school in Connecticut, and during my freshman year they implemented a new honor code system. Basically, all one had to do was sign a paper and explain how he showed academic integrity, respect, etc. For this year (my junior year), however, they decided to add a school service element. To get the honor code status, one now has to perform ~6 hours of in-school service, e.g. tutoring, working in the school store, etc. Out of a combination of apathy and laziness, I decided not to do the honor code this year. I'm afraid it will look stupid on a transcript if I have honor code for freshman and sophomore year, but not for junior year, and I'm hoping to apply to some rather competitive schools. I don't want colleges to think I had some kind of honor code violation or something. Thoughts? Should I do the honor code next year or bag it?

What? You can opt out of your Honor Code? Well that’s dumb.

Our Honor Code is school wide and as a part of attending our school, you must sign and agree to it or face the consequences.

So what happens to the kids who opt out of it? Are they not held accountable for cheating?

I think you sort of answered your own question there.

I’d rather be safe then sorry.

And six hours and signing a piece of paper isn’t even that bad. Just do it. :</p>

Ridiculous! An honor code should not be another simulated EC.

6 hours of service is nothing… IMO, just do it.

If you don’t, maybe you could talk to your GC or something about removing it from your transcript for freshman and sophomore years. It does seem kind of weird to drop something called “Honor Code.”

Do you live in FC?
