Hi,
I am currently a sophomore in the honors program here at American University. I want to tell you right away that I plan on transferring next semester, so my answer may be somewhat biased. Anyway, the honors program is much better than general admission. Usually, a student takes two honors classes a semester, out of five classes overall. There is usually a wide selection of courses taught with honors credit, although it is hard to get into some as a freshman. Housing is just like that of regular AU students. Certain floors are reserved for honors, but the floors are part of the same buildings. Often, AU allows too many freshmen in and three people have to live in a room meant for two. Usually, they are detripled by second semester. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

There are several reasons, though I will say that it is not a bad school. I do not get along with most of the students here, they tend to form cliques very fast. Also, some of the professors are great, but others just do not seem that interested in their jobs. The school's location is great, if you are studying political science, economics, or international studies. If you decide to study any other subject I guarantee you will be asked why you came to AU. The school just isn't what I thought it was going to be. It's the wrong choice for me, but I know plenty of people that like it here.

could you talk more about the social aspects/cliques elaborate a bit if you could.and also is business acceptable over there? or not considered a strong major of the school

I could probably give some of you more analysis on AU's social and academic scene, as well as other positives and negatives of AU. Send me a private message.

In terms of social cliques, it's not like there aren't many different groups, they just tend to stick with similar people. There isn't much mingling among people. The athletes hang out with athletes, the smarter people hang out together, etc. Business is getting much better here, it might not be a bad choice for you.
