When writing the math standards as part of the Common Core, one of the conclusions of the experts was that Algebra 1 in 9th grade should be viewed as the new norm. Before that, many school districts were trying to get most students into Algebra by 8th grade, but many experts have concluded that some students are not ready for it then.
