Ok im in 7th grade and i got my schedule a few days ago and i was placed in a math class called algebra 1, my mom told me she didin't take it until 9th grade, my dad said he didin't take it until 9th grade, and my sister said she didin't take it until 8th grade, i've been told its 9th grade math, is this a normal class placement?

It’s an advanced class for 7th graders.

And get off this site, bruh. Wait two or three more years.

y r u on cc

Yeah, don’t worry! We had some 7th graders in my 8th grade Algebra class in middle school. No worries.

But seriously, get off CC until at least you’re in high school please. (:

For your own good! It can be kind of addicting, and you have NO REASON to be planning for college admissions in middle school.

Where I went to middle school Algebra 1 in 8th grade was advanced (and was really advanced, I’m sure less than 20% took Algebra 1 in middle school where I went). Where I live now it seems to be more along the lines of Algebra 1 in 8th grade being standard for university bound students, and in 9th grade being standard for those who will probably graduate high school, but no university. 7th grade is advanced regardless, 8th may or may not be advanced depending on where you live.

bahhaha .don’t worry an 8th grade at my school just took calc bc and got a 5.

and you’re already on CC??!

Students are so obsessed with admission to top schools, CC may have to make… Middle School Life!!!

Until that fateful day when a student posts: “Hey, I know I’m only in 4th grade, but how does my schedule look for HYPSM? Am I doomed because my school only has Gifted class once a week? Last year I could have transferred to a school with a full time gifted program, but I was an idiot. I feel like I don’t stand a chance and people at Harvard will laugh at me Will I have to go to a community college?”

LOL That will be the end of HSL as we know it.

On the real, 7th Grade Alg 1 is advanced. You’re fine.

But it would be the beginning of MSL and ESL. Luckily, I don’t think little children are proficient enough with computers for PSL to happen. Though who knows, with these overachievers…

PSL, that deserves an SMH.

mathnerd21,
Make sure you do really well in Algebra 1 because if you have to do it in HS it is a pain to catch up and take Calc AB. Remember, FOIL FOIL FOIL FOIL.

7th alg1 –> 8th alg2 –> 9th geometry –> 10th precalc –> 11th AB/BC Calc –> 12th BC Calc/Stats/Compsci/further topics in calculus.

You’re simply on the high track for math. Nothing too crazy.

And I thought I was a young 'un on CC.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/harvard-university/880742-8th-grader-urgent.html

Hahaha, I remember that one!

^^ I thought it was more common for geometry then alg 2.

First part of your statement=false; second part=definitely possible. My little brother for example -_-

For me it was Pre-Algebra (6) - Algebra 1 (7) - Algebra 2/Geometry (8) - Geometry (9) - Algebra 2 (10) - DE Statistics (11) - DE College Algebra (11)

You might be wondering, “Billy, why did you have to take Algebra 2 and Geometry twice, with the same book and everything?” Well, good question. It’s because my freshman guidance counselor lied to me about my ability to test out of classes, and the availability of classes.

^ I don’t know why people do that kind of stuff.

^That sucks

I was lucky and I ended up doing:

Pre-Algebra and Statistics (6) - Algebra 1 (7) - Algebra 1 continued and Probability (8) - Geometry (9) - Algebra 2 (10) - Pre-Calculus (10)
