My son was informed yesterday by his school that he made NMSF status in CA. He is considering applying for Honors College at Univ of South Carolina and majoring in Int’l Business. One big reason he is considering applying at SCHC is because SC is ranked as number one in Int’l Business. But I am afraid that SC is not as strong in Global Studies or general Humanities areas in case he wants to change major. Or is it? Also, does Career Center try hard to place kids in good jobs? Also, seems like my kid will qualify for Lieberman and Cooper Scholarships, but do you have to go there to interview to get these Scholarships? Also, the Honors set up so that guys and girls share bathrooms? How diverse is Honors kids in ethnic background?
The award for NMF is the Leiber and it is automatic. Cooper and similar scholarships are based purely on stats. Your S honors application/essays are also his application for McNair, the top scholarship offered to OOS students and that is done by interview. However if you are invited to McNair weekend, you get at least the Horseshoe which is almost as good, especially since it can be stacked with Leiber.
The honors residence is suite style with 2 room sharing a bath, same sex. There are suites with 2 single rooms and suites with 2 double rooms.
@scmom12 Tx for your response. I knew Lieber was an automatic scholarship, but I didn’t know Cooper was automatic as long as you meet the stats requirement. Yes, my son is scheduled to meet their rep and submit an application to SCHC. if he’s fortunate to be admitted, we are going to visit the campus and decide.
One additional question: What is the ratio of boys and girls at SCHC? Does anyone know? Tx in advance.
