Honors College Beneficial?

I am pondering whether I should apply to GMU's honors college. Will it make my application to medical school look better?

no it wont make your app look better. but there are benefits to being in the honors college like early registration

Do it if you want to do it, or if the benefits make it worth doing intrinsically. As a whole, your pre-med experience will be much more successful and pleasant if you stick to that rule.

i agree with what’s been said. The simple fact of being in the honors college won’t mean anything but if there are perks such as early registration or better advising it can definitely help indirectly.

And don’t forget, honors classes “might be” more fun/interesting/rewarding/smaller and you might have access to extra “resources” than your non-honors classmates. All Honors programs are different. Investigate.

Honors college means nothing for Med. School. To be in Honors is very beneficial in UG. Honors classes are much smaller and many consider them easier for this reason as prof. is more accessible. Also some Honors mihgt have Merit awards attached to them. This is from my D’s experience.

Ooops, forgot the absolutely biggest benefit - priority registration for classes. This one is definitely huge if you want to complete everything on your own schedule, have a very busy one with some minors and do not want to take summer classes.

Even though the benefits are totally dependent on the honors college, and it won’t spruce up your med school app, I’ve never heard of it harming your application or otherwise being a waste of time or energy. I can’t see any reason not to apply; it probably doesn’t require much more than filling out a form and writing a few paragraphs about why you want to be there…so why not?

MiamiDAP, from your name I am wondering if you know specifically about UMiami. If students are in the honors program there, do they get to register before students who are not in it? thanks!
