How Might Being an Honors College Graduate Affect My Chances at Med School Admission?

Hello everyone! This will be my first post on College Confidential!

I am currently a freshman entering his second semester at community college. My first semester was a huge success as I have attained a 3.86 GPA. In fact, my GPA is so good that I may be eligible for an honors college. Attending an honors college would be a great honor to me. Writing a senior thesis sounds daunting, but also pretty cool. Despite all the good associated with being an honors college student, I have also heard that medical schools do not really care whether you are an honors college student or not. I would naturally think otherwise, but I would like to hear more opinions and stories about this. Is it true that med schools don't really consider whether one has attended an honors college or not?

Is this at a community college? At most colleges, you’d end up with department honors; it’s not considered going to a different college.

The greatest impact honors colleges have is that you presumably have access to smaller classes (and thus easier to get a LOR), and better registration priority (easier to design your schedule).

They probably care about you being an honors college student to the extent that they care about people graduating from higher ranked schools vs. lower ones. It’s nice, but pretty unimportant compared to the other parts of your app.

Thanks for the responses! Some of my confusion has been cleared up.
