@sbuadmissions chris, if you apply to Honors but don’t get in, can you still have a chance for scholars, or are you out of luck?
@Sapphire50 - Yes.
Are the honors college decisions still going out to accepted students?
@sbuadmission Sorry Chris, “yes,” you’re out of luck or yes you can have a chance for scholars?
This may be a stupid question, but what is the difference between the Honors College and University Scholar? I just accepted for the latter, but I’m pretty sure that I “preferred the HC” in my common app.
Are the honors/university scholar information coming through email or snail mail?
@StillWaitingHere I got mine through email.
Btw please disregard my first comment! My questions were answered after reading the full email lol
@simom2two In the same boat here, got into Cornell and the decision is driving me insane, I’m hoping that their offer is either irresistible or really bad so my decision is easy.
Son also received email he was accepted into scholars program. Unfortunately has a conflict on April 11 so can’t attend the reception. He’s got some tough choices to make.
@airspirit so what is the difference between hc and university scholars?
In case future students want to read about the Honors College, I’m updating.
I was rejected from both HC and University Scholars, but appealed and was accepted to the Honors College.
SAT: 2350
GPA: About 90%, including a bunch of class final averages in the 60s, 70s, and 80s.
Just got offered a place in Honors college. I’m elated. No mention of scholarship though. Does this mean I’m not in the university scholars program anymore?
Yeah, you can only be in one program so if you accept your place in the Honors College you won’t be in Scholars.
Are you going to SB then? I’ll see you there!
@Vinnatan how did you appeal? Did you just send an email to the honors program?
Yeah, that’s what I did. Emailed and said SB would be a lot more appealing with the Honors College attached. They said they would begin to look at appeals on April 20th and would decide based on how many spots were available. They emailed me with my acceptance on April 24th.
Thanks! Do you think my stats would be good enough to appeal for the University Scholars program or the honors program? I have a 2140 and a 92 average from a competitive high school.
It might be a little late, but it probably couldn’t hurt to ask. From their websites, the average gpa/SAT for Honors College is 97.11 and 1485 M+CR. For University Scholars, it’s 96 and 1370 M+CR.
I also got into Honors only after appealing. @stillwaitinghere I was initially accepted into Scholars with a 2120 SAT (1440 CR+M) and 93 GPA. You should definitely try even if its a little late!
Thanks! I sent them an email but they said I was too late. If only I had known that we could appeal earlier lol.
