Hey Sbuadmissions. Regarding Honors College you stated on 3/2 that the results should be out within a week. However, it’s my understanding that results are rolled out until the end of the month. One of the people on this board posted on 3/21
"I just emailed them and this is what they said “Thank you for your e-mail. Honors College, WISE and University Scholars decisions are still being sent. We anticipate having all decisions out by next week. We appreciate your patience.”
So your information is at best partial. You guys there is sill hope until the end of the month. Fingers crossed.
@kuca - I take enormous umbrage with your comments. All I can do – and all I’ve ever done in this forum – is give out what information I have (and can give). I’m the only person on this board who is completely open and transparent as to who I am and what I do; there’s an enormous amount of anonymous stuff on College Confidential, and I’m doing my best to cut through the noise. I’m sorry if that’s not good enough for you.
Nobody here – again, except for me – is using a real name and real information. Anyone could make an account here and say “I have an 82 GPA and got a 19 on my ACT and I just got my Honors College admission letter” and people would go BANANAS. If you have questions about your specific application – only yours, not your friend who got admitted or your cousin or your brother who applied three years ago – then email us, and you’ll get a much more tailored answer because we’ll be able to address your specific situation, more or less.
Yes, sometimes the information I give here is partial, because things are honestly always changing. If I said something on this board, then it’s true to the best of my knowledge and on what I have the ability to say at that time. We were told in a meeting on February 27 – I still have the notes – that the Honors College should have their decisions to us “by the end of this week,” which means by the time we get them into our system and the letters go out, students who were offered admission to HC would have it by the end of the following week.
The problem we have had this past week or two is that we were waiting on final Scholars decisions, which we just got this morning… and we don’t send out HC/WISE “denies” (which aren’t really “denies,” but you know what I mean) until we have all the Scholars decisions on, because some people apply to all three programs and it would be silly to send a “you didn’t get into HC” letter and a “you didn’t get into WISE” letter AND a “congratulations and welcome to Scholars” letter at separate times. In an ideal world, all of this would happen at the same time, but there are a lot of moving pieces here and that’s not always possible. We get decisions out as efficiently as we can in an effort to ensure that we’re building our freshman class to the university’s capabilities. Sorry if CC isn’t perfect, and sometimes things change and I don’t spend every waking moment here responding to every question. I check in once in the morning and that’s it.
ALL THAT SAID – in all honesty, if you haven’t received an Honors College or WISE “yes” in the mail or on SOLAR by this point, it’s highly unlikely that we were able to offer you admission to those programs. University Scholars should be on its way soon.
And Scholars is an AMAZING program and if you’re in Scholars, you might have me as a freshman seminar instructor and that would be a serious good time.
You wrote on 3/16
“WISE and HC are out; Scholars will go out probably tomorrow. Not 100% sure on SFMed decisions, but they have to hit very soon if not already.”
Which is it all together as you just said today or one by one as you suggested earlier?
I know you are used to dealing with kids but I am actually an adult and take what you say very seriously. Whether this is confusion within sb or it just you it’s not ok.
Hey, don’t get me wrong – the confusion frustrates me just as much, believe me, and I completely agree with you. I wish we could do things more smoothly. But again, I can only go on what I’m told, which is that we were expecting Scholars decisions last week and we didn’t get them when we thought we would. I apologize for not being clearer.
And I suppose – thinking about it more deeply – “HC and WISE decisions are out” doesn’t tell the whole story, so I apologize there. I should have said “HC and WISE ADMITS are out.”
Frankly, I’m surprised at your blistering attacks at the SBU rep (so much so that the moderator saw fit to edit your 9:06am 3/22 post) especially since you claim to be an adult. Have a modicum of respect. It doesn’t take a lot of research to see that SBU admissions is a real college rep.
Regarding your comment (2;42pm 3/22 post) "I know you are used to dealing with kids but I am actually an adult and take what you say very seriously. "
…I take offense that you assume a lot of the posts are from kids…there are a fair amount of adults on CC including me.
Not all of the colleges have a College rep on College Confidential and any information that Chris has provided in the past has been very helpful and shows how dedicated Stony Brook is in providing information for prospective students…Go Seawolves!..What’s a Seawolf??? I’m a Seawolf!
Just spoke with admission at SBU this morning. Honors College admits are still going out until the end of this week. They are sending letters by snail mail.
WHOA. Let’s not hammer on @kuca here. This process can be awful, and admissions offices are a big part of that. I totally get it. I do what I can to keep everything as transparent as I can, but I do understand the frustration on all sides.
Not sure about that but heard it’s by email. Again not positive just heard from my kid’s friends. It seems like a very confusing and messy process by sb. Good luck.
I got denied from the Honors College, but I’m pretty sure that my scores(2150 SAT (1430 CR + M)) and GPA (4.4ish weighted) place me well above the 25th percentile for the admitted students to these programs. I also had pretty decent extracurriculars, but my essay was probably sub-par because I typed it in 15 minutes (Maybe this is why I got rejected). Any idea what the stats were for admitted students this year? Is there any chance that there could have been a mistake?
And I didn’t even receive scholarship Although I don’t need money for tuition, still good to know my scores and everything are good enough to earn me free money…but no… 8-| 8-|
