Honors College/Top Scholars Class of 2024

Anyone get Top Scholars notifications today? And just wondering if they only send invites or do they let you know if you were not picked?

I have spoken to two people today who were told by two different people in admissions that this year there was a change to a more holistic process. They put much less weight on test scores and much more on the essays. They also were trying to get more humanity majors, where in the past there had bee a lot of business and stem. Also, what id yall think of the box where they asked if you got help on your essay. I wonder if what you replied had any bearing.

Did any one else receive socks? Son was accepted to honors program - we did not receive any packages in the mail for him today - maybe tomorrow?

@Henry111 No socks here in MD! Maybe today
He received a scarf from Wheaton College IL. It really made him feel special and excited about college. He’s still undecided as to his top choice.

We are OOS and got the Cocky socks today. No note, just socks.

We haven’t received any socks!!!

We got the univ of sc socks today!!

Are the socks for Honors?

Ours came from the honors college.

still no socks today - oh well, maybe Monday, no biggie

We received socks today. We are OOS.

@Losingmymind4, thanks for sharing the information about the more holistic scoring. My daughter expressed an interest in combining both STEM and business
oops! And she’s definitely stronger on the academic/stats sides than ECs which centered around swimming (20+hours/week), work and normal volunteer/club activities.

they came with a little card saying “you and the south carolina honors college make quite a pair!”

I can’t remember if this question has already been asked, but does anyone have any insight to the second/final round of honors college or capstone notifications? TIA!

Happily received my cocky socks today!

@UpstateSCmom - we are same and no socks
feeling very much like my kid is not part of the “cool” club since he hasn’t gotten the socks. ha!

Socks yesterday in NY.
We were late registering for HC Reception Feb 7 as we needed to wait to confirm travel availability, and have been put on a waitlist  Anyone think spot will open?
Will be attending Admitted Students on 8th (first vist) including HC & Darla Moore information sessions.

Couple of quick questions:

  1. If your child applied to the HC but is not accepted in February, do they get a rejection notification? Or just no acceptance letter?
  2. Has anyone's child gotten into Capstone if they didn't get into HC? When do those notifications come out?
  3. Does Capstone usually offer instate tuition for OOS students?

Thanks!

@bren1123, I asked if there was any chance of receiving in-state tuition since she wasn’t selected for Chancellors; the admissions rep said she had not heard of any OOS waivers. NC schools seem to be less generous in this regard than some of the other southern states.

From what I can tell, there doesn’t seem to be much scholarship money beyond Chancellors and a few small awards (2-3K). BUT I’m not familiar with Capstone, so hopefully
good luck!

@Brent1123 Are you asking if you can qualify for In-State tuition with or without being in Honors College or Capstone? If so, my DS did not apply for HC and his original acceptance letter said that he will receive a scholarship qualifying S.C. tuition. (details in March)

He didn’t do HC application and I have been following this thread to stay on top of Capstone announcements since I don’t think there was a separate application for consideration into that program.
